Within the cherry industry the words “rain” and “cherries” when used in the same sentence, is typically never a good thing. The recent rain events that have taken place in California may leave some of you with pause and curiosity on what this means for the current cherry crop. Meena Farms wants to assure you that rain is not always a bad thing. There is no doubt that most of California’s past woes of facing severe drought have been replenished by the series of recent rain events. These events have allowed for the development of healthier soils, dispatchable water storage for future years, and recharge of our vital groundwater supply. All of these benefits translate into the reliability of resources in order to continue to grow some of the most premium quality cherries available. |

In regard to the 2023 cherry crop, we have been following our bloom and tracking the growth stages of our fruit to better determine the projected harvest timing. This exercise has been particularly challenging this year as the storm system’s cooler temperatures have delayed expected harvest. Our visible green cherries show no signs of defects and are growing closer towards their goal. With the future forecast indicating the potential for drier weather, we do expect the pace of growing to improve. |

As mentioned, rain is not always a bad thing, but if a rain pattern continues further into our cherry season, we could face some challenges down the road. |

As we continue to monitor our cherry fields, we will keep all of our partners updated on when to expect the start of our season. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. | | |
