January Author Newsletter Welcome to my everyday, sometimes writing, life: |

Edit: Apparently there was an error and this did not publish on time in January. To be fair I had a death in the family and left it on auto-pilot, apparently that was a mistake. Still I took the time to write this to share my life with you, so I thought late was better than never... The second planned email of each month offers you some insight into how I write and where I live, not to mention my furry cowriters. Please reach out to me on social media or via email - I would love to get to know YOU, as well! |

Did I mention my furry cowriters? In the summer when I work outside, I have feathered coworkers, too, but let's face it, the furry ones are cuter! Our house typically has two cats and two dogs: Duckie, Stuart, Lady, and Luxor. But depending on which daughter is home, there could be another 1-3 dogs! Our dogs are both German Shepherds; we also have a calico cat and an orange-tiger cat. They all are great at cuddling and keeping me company. Only one animal stays completely off my keyboard - lol.

So I want to share with you just a few of my immediate writing goals: Complete Parallel Worlds - book 1 (adult fantasy romance). Complete Through the Gate - book 1 (adult fantasy). Promote the heck out of Growing Up As Fairies! (Children's/Middle Grade) Host some giveaways! Who doesn't like swag?? Check out my Facebook page for more information on the next giveaway!

Latest Project This is my latest Kindle Vella that I started publishing. This is actually a project that I began as my thesis project for my Creative Writing degree a lonnnnnng time ago. Occasionally I pull it out from the cyber dust and add to it. By putting it onto Kindle Vella I figure I actually have to finish it. lol Because I already have the beginning of it written, drafted anyway, I can schedule it out. It is currently scheduled out into February, while I finish up two Vellas (see above goals) and then have time to devote to it. It sounds achievable, right?

A challenge I struggle with: Many authors I know never speak to their readers about the challenges they face. Although we're happy to complain to other writers. While I want to celebrate with you, I also want you to understand me more, which includes the tougher parts. Any work is hard work if you're not in the right frame of mind, or if you're sick, or tired. Writing, editing, formatting, marketing, is no different. That last sentence is one of my biggest struggles. Not the sometimes-I-don't-feel-like-it part. But the part that I had no idea that to be an author I also needed to edit way more than I ever thought, learn to format and navigate so many programs and applications, AND become adept at marketing. Oh my gosh is marketing exhausting!!! Want to know two ways YOU can help authors with this struggle? Reviews - oh reviews are the lifeblood of marketing! Many marketplaces won't even publicly list a book until it has at least 50 positive reviews. These don't have to be long, just let the world know you liked it. Interact about the book on social media. We love hearing from our readers and would love for you to respond to our social media posts.

A friend of mine just released her book, too! For centuries, the land-bound descendants of Merpeople have been confined to hidden districts where they will not disturb proper society. When Peter, Earl of Everly, flees his engagement ball, he finds himself stranded among the half-Mer. Will he encounter hostility from society’s outcasts, or could they be hiding something he’s always sought? Rejected by Lord Everly, Lady Meredith Bannister’s future is dark. Burdened with the secret of her heritage, can she embrace her identity before it is taken by force?
