New York Fashion Week

Native Hawaiian designer Micah Kamohoalii is bringing Hawaiʻi to New York Fashion Week. But the renowned kapa artist and kumu hula said he isn’t planning a typical fashion show. Instead, his presentation on Runway 7 at Sony Hall this September 9 will be a cultural showcase, he said, featuring hula, kapa pounding, chanting, and singing.

His clothing company, Dezigns by Kamohoalii, launched in 2005 with his traditional kapa designs on modern fabric. His brand is popular among the crowds, particularly at the Merrie Monarch Festival and various pop-up shops.
