JULY SHOUTOUT

LET'S TALK ABOUT KICKING BUTT

7 Tips for Managing Stress & Kicking Butt

  1. Give yourself a break. There's no wrong or right way to do anything given our world right now, so be easy on yourself and give yourself GRACE!
  2. Switch up your routine and/or space. If you're tired of doing the same thing over and over (and who isn't?), then switch up just one thing in your routine OR clear your desk off entirely and start from scratch.
  3. Find your energy sweet spot & hunker down around it. Know when you're best at certain activities (like high-level work that needs focus time) and create blocks to protect this time.
  4. Pick your 3 non-negotiable tasks. Also known as, "Eat your frogs first." (More on this below in this month's Takeaway Tool.)
  5. MOVE. YOUR. BODY. Set a timer so you get up and move once every hour. Keep it simple: an around-the-block walk, a quick 1-miler or just 20 squats and situps.
  6. Nature. There's nothing that will get your headspace cleared out faster than a quick hike or nature walk. Go with the green!
  7. Remember: What you water—grows. You get what you focus on. So be mindful, especially right now, on what you're focusing on because you'll get more of THAT!

Today's uncertain times is adding extra stress to our work and personal lives. I’m doing a lot of accountability coaching and virtual training around staying as efficient as possible given what we're up against. If you’re interested in talking more about this for your team or yourself, please reach out.  And, remember - you can STILL kick butt in life and work no matter what is going on around you... what you water grows!

The following book and podcast are two resources I've found give me nuggets of wisdom about kicking butt in business and life.

This month's takeaway tool is focused on "Eating your frogs first," in order to help you get stuff done in times of stress.

A Book I'm Reading

Your Resonant Self

I'm in the midst of some deep learning for myself right now. This book is a gem. It's loaded with so many interesting meditations and ways to re-think how you were parented and how our internal voice can help us move through difficult areas in our lives.

I highly, highly recommend it!

A Podcast I'm Listening To

Unlocking Us

So many incredible learnings from the awesome Brené Brown in this podcast.  Highly recommend it! My favorite is her interview on saying sorry with Harriet Lerner. Really, really informative!

Eat Your Frogs First

Every day we are faced with loads of things to do. Deciding what to start with is what makes or breaks our productivity. Often we start with emails and lower-level tasks; however, you're likely going to be chasing email all day and feeling frustrated.

Instead, I encourage you to identify what your top 3 FROGS are for the day (the things you're most likely to procrastinate on). Name them and then focus on doing them first so you get them done!

Start asking yourself every morning,

What are my frogs today?
