2020 WSBC Delegate Report

First of all, thank you to everyone in the MidHudson Intergroup of Overeaters Anonymous for letting me once again represent you at the World Service Business Conference (WSBC).  Of course this year because of the Corona Virus Pandemic the conference was canceled and the only business conducted was the election of trustees and voting on four pieces of literature.

There were 180 delegates registered from 13 countries; Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, and the USA.

The newly elected officers who will hold offices for 3 years are:

                         Margie G.              Region1

                         Meg M.                  Region 4

                         Karen B.                Region 7

Betty.  J.                General Service Trustee (GST)

                         Ron P.                    GST

There is still a vacancy for a GST.   This vacancy will be appointed by the Board of Trustees.  Applications must be postmarked by June 1, 2020.

The Literature proposals all passed.

1.  In Oa Recovery is Possible

2.  Temporary Sponsors; Newcomers first 12days

3.  To the Young Person

4.  A Lifetime of Abstinence

All motions and proposals that were scheduled to be voted on will have to be resubmitted for next year.

The theme for this year is Looking to the Future: OA Celebrates 60 years.

Serving as a delegate to WSBC is one of the highlights of my OA Recovery.  I will have been a member of OA 43 years in the Fall of this year.  I never dreamed that I would actually ever go to the conference.  I remember going to Intergroup meetings and hearing the delegate reports and thinking that sounds exciting and also like a lot of work.  Both statements are true. I have learned so much by going to WSBC.  Here you actually see Parliamentary Procedure, Roberts Rules, and group Conscience work for the benefit of OA as a whole. Working year-round on a committee comprised of people all over the world is amazing. There is nothing like being in a room with delegates from all over the world and saying Rozeanne’s prayer  “I Put my Hand in Yours” together or hearing the Serenity Prayer, said first in English and then another language.

I encourage everyone who is able, to take advantage of the opportunity to go as a delegate to World Service.  Two years of Service above the group level, one year of abstinence, and a desire to serve OA are the only requirements needed to apply to our Intergroup to be a delegate.   You are asked to attend all sessions at the conference and to commit to serving on the committee you are assigned to until the following WSBC.  I have met so many people and some life long friends by going to the Conference and working on committees year-round.  The experiences have definitely enhanced my WorldWide View of OA as well as most importantly helped me maintain my abstinence.   Again, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your delegate and passionate in my encouragement to have other members consider going themselves.  I will gladly share in more detail with anyone wanting more information.
