Breast Cancer Awareness October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Kentucky has one of the highest cancer death rates in the country. We know early detection is critical to improving survival rates and it is therefore especially important to remain up-to-date on all yearly exams.GCHD offers free or low-cost well-women exams that include breast exams and pap tests in addition to mammogram referrals for women age 40 and older who qualify.

A New Podcast!Jenny Cummings and DeAnna Butler, both academy educators at GCHD, have launched a new podcast called "My Health Matters". The podcast is committed to promoting local public health. Listeners will gain a wealth of knowledge as well as enjoy the humor and down to earth approach that host and co-host employee.

A Doctor's Commitment  Dr. Lee, Medical Director of GCHD, was recognized by the health department and local board of health for his service. Dr. Lee joined the board in 1976--meaning he has served nearly 50 years. 
The celebration took place during the most recent board meeting in September. Dr. Lee was presented a plaque. Public Health Director Joshua Horton praised Lee's commitment. Dr. Lee's family also attended and offered a few words to help highlight Dr. Lee's success.
It was a great celebration! We look forward to continuing our work with Dr. Lee.
