Barn Project Underway

The Bryn Du Commission and Licking County Community Center for 60+ Adults have commenced fundraising for the restoration, renovation and re-purposing of our 115-year-old historic barn. The goal is to provide a permanent home for the Licking County Community Center for 60+ Adults on the barn’s first floor and to create a community cultural performance and multi-purpose space on the second floor. While we have reached out to the Village of Granville and the State of Ohio for about two thirds of the cost, we are now looking to foundations, corporations and individuals for contributions to fund the remainder of the project. We welcome your help in creating this much-needed space for the community while preserving the beautiful barn in this special way. Learn more and donate at the link below.

Summer Fun

Happy summer, everyone! June officially kicks off both our summer camp schedule and our adult summer classes at the Bryn Du Art Center. For the kids, check out June's "National Parks Art Camp" and "Zines and Illustrations Summer Camp" - both have very limited space available so register now before it's too late. Make sure to also check out our July and August camps and workshops.

And we haven't forgotten about the adults! Take a look at the upcoming watercolor workshops (per your request), plein air workshops (perfect in the warmer months), and watercolor session (a much-loved 6 week course). We think that the summer is a great time to try something new!

Help us welcome Kong Ho!

We are so excited to welcome Bryn Du's second Artist in Residence of the calendar year to campus! Mr. Kong Ho, from Bradford, Pennsylvania, is an experienced acrylic artist who will be living in Bryn Du's Artist in Residence cottage during the months of June and July.

Mr. Ho utilizes his bicultural background as a teaching artist and muralist, professionally trained in both Chinese and Western visual arts, to practice his own craft. He earned a Masters in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University and has taught and practiced visual art across the world at a multitude of universities. In addition to teaching and creating art, Mr. Ho founded the Hong Kong Mural Society and has published 2 books. His works have been shown in 16 solo exhibits and more than 120 international and national exhibitions. During his 8 weeks at Bryn Du, Mr. Ho plans to explore his representational and imaginative floral-spiral paintings in relation to new sensory experiences and the nostalgia for familiar ones.

All are welcome to join us for the following free, community events:

In the Early 1900s

The small letters at the bottom of the above blueprints read, "Alterations and Improvements to Suburban Residence of Mr. J.S. Jones, Granville, Ohio. - F.L. Packard, Architect, Columbus, Ohio". After purchasing Bryn Du in 1905, John Sutphin Jones hired renowned architect, Frank Packard, to renovate the Mansion into what was to be his summer home. Packard designed Bryn Du in the Craftsman Style he was known for which included using stone that was quarried from the hillside behind the Mansion for the project. The extensive renovation took 3 years and was followed in later years by Packard's designs of the Granville Inn and Granville Public Library. According to Denison Professor Anthony Lisska, "The work of Packard has influenced the layout and the architectural footprint of Granville in a lasting way".
