Hi Friend, it sure felt good, yet weird at the same time. It actually felt like I was in a time warp! or was it a slow motion movie I was starring in? I cannot EVER remember a time while travelling when I was the only person through airport security. Imagine for a minute: taking your time with all the 'stuff' you have carefully packed into your bags, and then, seemingly in slow motion, putting them effortlessly in the grey bins on the moving track through the airport x-ray machine. Although it's not really moving. It's waiting for you to put all your bins on the conveyor belt before it moves. No one is shoving you from behind. No one is yelling (or cursing) you to hurry up. A kind officer gently waives you through the security arch and wishes you pleasant travels. Then you wait. Wait. Wait. Like 3 hours of waiting to board the airplane (because the airline said that's how long you should be there in advance, even though you're not checking luggage, and you are flying domestically). And lastly, you count the number of fellow travelers on the same flight as you, and do so on your two hands and two feet. Do you feel a little in a time warp or in a slow motion movie too? That actually was me and the experience I had a few weeks ago when I travelled to beautiful BC. It was a long time (like 284 days long) since I had seen my daughter last. She and her boyfriend moved out West. It had been 605 days since I last travelled by airplane. Both memories seemed like a lifetime ago! In the 3 hours of waiting in the airport, followed by the 4 1/2 hour flight, then the 168 hours while on-the-ground in BC, (well ... mostly on the ground, anyways, because my time there also included a 20 minute float plane ride, a 60 minute ferry excursion, a series of lost-track-of-time driving in the car, a horse & buggy ride in Stanley Park, and about 4 hours climbing, swinging, zip-lining, bungy jumping, and axe-throwing). Add on the 4 1/2 hour flight home ... well ... all that time really got me thinking about time. It's really quite astonishing how precious time is; the value it provides when we spend it, how it flies when you're having fun, and how you can never find it once it's lost. Thanks for taking the time to read this month's edition of: |

Deer Me! It's time to share a secret (from the research I'm doing for my story books). I'm astonished at what I've learned about my-deer-self. Things like: My quest for balance. The urges I have into wildly emotional searches for stability, possibly taking the form of solitude or even an obsessive relationship. That said, more often than not, sanctuary is found in my strong spiritual beliefs and spending a great deal of time in the company of like-minded individuals. I'm a habitual people-watcher! The outdoors is where I feel most comfortable. I'm drawn to the freedom of wide open spaces where my graceful movements and love for music allows me to express myself. Some of us deer suffer(ed) from instability and stress while chasing a perfect career. I think it's partly because most of our bosses tend(ed) to be larger, predatory animal personalities, combined with the proximity we have to lions, warthogs, and bears. It all makes us deer nervous. I feel most at home as a member of a team. I'm probably best known for being high-strung and having skittish behaviour, but really am shy and demure. I have a propensity to withdraw emotionally for fear of getting hurt. I often resort to creativity and entertainment; where hiding behind a mask of characters gives me temporary refuge from some painful elements of my own life. I am extremely adventurous, and immensely loyal, even when loyalty isn't reciprocated. Careers and hobbies of us deer tend to include: dancing, acting, social work, secretary, retail clerk, athlete, hiking, gymnastics, and aerobics. Family Matters Meghan & me in BC on the ferry returning to the mainland from a quick jaunt to the Sunshine Coast! It was a whirlwind trip for a week in July, and one that made my heart full again. | | Feeling Good at leaders2give In the July leaders2give newsletter there was an important and urgent update about Feeding The Hungry program; a key partner cause for us. The demand for it's services is on the rise beyond it's regular operation of feeding about 40 families every week. Food vouchers are purchased from a local grocery store (Chapito’s) so that needy families can shop for their own food, medicine, whatever they need at that point in time - with dignity. More families need some additional support as the Los Barriles and surrounding communities continue to fight the nasty COVID curse. In July alone, leaders2give is proud to have raised an astonishing ~$6K USD for this program. That said, there is still need for more funding, and hope if you are willing and/or able to do so you'll consider helping. Note: US donations qualify for a US tax deduction 501(c)3 Nonprofit tax receipt. Feeding The Hungry is also run completely by volunteers. You can learn more on their facebook page. | | |
