No.4 December 2nd 2020 The Re-Peater |
Hello again everyone! It's our pleasure to bring you our December newsletter - thanks for joining us again! Remember, this newsletter looks best in your browser! |
So, what have we been up to? |
We have recently launched our crowdfunding campaign. Up until now all our activities and events with RE-PEAT have been fully unfunded or self funded (we really believe in what we're doing!). For us to continue, to widen our reach and expand our activities, we realise we will need some funds! Your donations will go towards organising Peat-Fest 2021, publishing a children's book, realising the Peat Anthology UK Edition + many other activities and events.
Watch our crowdfunding video below to find out more or follow this link. |

Earlier this month we took part in the Youth Climate Summit, an event that brought together primary and secondary schools from across the UK in a week-long engaging educational event aimed at empowering students, teachers and schools to be more ambitious in the fight against climate crisis. All the sessions were recorded and can be found on their website. Follow this link to watch our session! |

The Mock COP26, run by young climate activists, filled the void filled by the COP26 which was postponed until next year. RE-PEAT led a fringe session, bringing the topic of peatlands into the conversation. We spoke about their role in Nationally Determined Contributions and touched on Nature Based Solutions.
Spot some members of the RE-PEAT team in this video we joined forces with UK Youth For Nature to create. Youth from across the UK and Europe are calling on DEFRA to ban the use of peat as compost as it is causing the destruction of precious peatlands across Europe. Share the video on twitter to add your voice to the call! |
Excitingly and rewardingly, we took part in and won a hackathon that recently took place in Estonia called Empowering Youth: Green Together! We brainstormed on how to create an engaging and interactive educational programme for children centered on peatlands. Watch our pitch via this link (33.30) Watch this space for more on this! |

Some RE-PEAT team members sat down with the team creating the .earth podcast series. .Earth is a web address that we use ourselves, as well as many others across the internet to signal our intention to work towards a better Earth. The podcast episodes shine a light on the growing network of groups, organisations & individuals using this domain.
RE-PEAT took part in the Flyway Youth Forum, an international event bringing together youth leaders, scientists, activists, artists and conservationists in conversations about wetlands and migratory birds. We talked about peatlands and our approach to advocacy. The links will be shared in the next newsletter! |
Throughout December we will be working on and sharing the Peat Anthology UK Edition. The idea is for everyone to email their MP's detailing why peatlands are important to them, their community and our planet. On our website you can find a map of some of the UK's very many peatlands, some text as inspiration for your email and all the submissions so far (to be updated on a rolling basis!) To get involved you can:
- Email your MP
- Send us your contribution to the Peat Anthology (a poem, letter, photo, drawing etc!)
- Share this webpage with your community and on your social media

On the 7th of December at 19.00 (BST) we will be leading a session as part of the Landscape Research Group's Landscape and Goodness event. We will explore the power of language when describing landscapes, and explore what happens to our understanding of the land when we lose the words to express it. We will explore the joy and wonder that can be found in both language and landscape. Sign up for this event and learn more here and check our the other events by following the link below. All events are free, but donations to the Landscape Research Group are very welcome!
