That was awesome!

Thank you for the emails! I loved writing my first newsletter and receiving your feedback. Indeed, this is not a one way communication channel and you can reply to this email to contact me. And as you know, the secret portal to my website opens by clicking on the logo on the top of this newsletter, for more pictures.

But first, I am proud to present the return of the creating hand pictures! I flew off my bike on a gravel road not long time ago. My first thought after being smashed with the entire planet Earth was "my hands?!". Luckily nothing broke, only the palms of the hands were left skinless and the knuckles had to be stitched up. It healed impressively fast and this is a happy ending story, that taught me this: furriously fast cycling + dog's poo on a gravel road = skidding into a no fun afternoon. The scars do not look that purple anymore which means the hand can enter the pictures again. So, what's new?

Here is that hero hand working on Philip's memory quilt, stitching the too large for the front of the quilt Mickey Mouse to its reverse side. Philip's mom Agata and I put 50 of his favorite baby clothing items into the memory quilt and completed it with lagoon & midnight blue. The scraps were turned into a matching cushion. Bright set, full of little pockets & appliques. Agata was ill so I brought the quilt to her house and for the first time in all these years witnessed the child open his special delivery.

Evi's angelic memory quilt & cushion. My brain was short circuiting when crafting this one, overwhelmed by how beautiful those colors are together. White, pink, mint, yellow clothes completed with ballet slipper and cherry blossom pinks. Colors picked by Evi's mom Anneke. Figuring out the perfect color combination has cost her one night's sleep and it was worth it, she nailed it! The keepsakes are hiding in Anneke's house waiting for January 1st, Evi's birthday. Birthday gift that takes extraordinary planning ahead!

And this is a bed runner for Kim & Wiljo, Boaz & Viggo's mum and dad. This show piece is placed on the foot end of the bed and is made of 136 most adorable baby clothing items from when the boys were tiny. The bed runner memory quilt is not only a collection of the sentimental items, it is also practical - you simply roll it off when it is time to go to bed, so it stays unwrinkled and is not that intensively used as a regular blanket. It is 250 cm long which is wide enough for a two persons bed. And it would not be of mine if it did not have the perfect hand stitched corners.

Good things come in pairs - hence one more bed runner! I crafted it for Kinh-Thi. She came to me with a lot of baby clothes that felt quite new - her boys Mikai and Quilan had to wear special clothing instead of regular baby wear to soothe their eczema. We decided to use only a couple of squares from the eczema clothing and create a keepsake that embodies the struggle, the love and the happy moments. The bed runner to crown Kinh-Thi's bed. And for the boys - matching memory cushions.

Thanks for your time!

Back to my needles and scissors. You will hear from me again next month.

Sincerely,

Laura
