A Note from the Camp Directors |
The decision made this last spring to not offer summer camp programming was one of the most difficult moments we have faced as camp directors. This was to be our 85th summer of continuous camping along the shores of Coon Creek. The 2020 camp staff had spent significant time preparing for the more than 800 Scouts and Scouters registered for this summer. Canyon Camp had been on course for another historic year serving "That Little Scout Who Follows Me." Instead, we made due with small work crews accomplishing meaningful maintenance projects while socially distanced at all times. Our world changed quickly this last spring, and we were proud to see how our units actively displayed how they live the Scout Motto. The summer of 2020 will be remembered forever, but the summer of 2021 will be the one we look forward to in a uniquely different way. In recent weeks we have continued specific work projects, seen new unit registrations, received a few camp staff applications, and trained five new assistants for the high ropes course. It's refreshing to begin to think about what comes next. Canyon Camp is already at 70% capacity for the 2021 season, and we are excited that it will also hold our next alumni and friend reunion. Save the date for July 24-25, 2021 to join us at camp. Additional information will be forthcoming as we get into next year. This fall and winter leading into 2021 will be different, but it energizes us thinking about how great next summer will be. We look forward to seeing you soon at Canyon Camp. In Loving Memory of Gary Hollister |
Gary Hollister, 78, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020. Gary was a dedicated volunteer and spent hundreds of hours working with others on projects at camp. He served several troops in the Blackhawk Area Council over the years, most recently Troop 206, and Canyon Camp was one of his favorite places. He will be deeply missed.

As part of #CanyonLowdenDay, hundreds of pictures were posted, dozens of memories were shared, and an awesome video was created with staff members new and from yesteryear.
Everything that was created was done by Scouts, leaders, friends, current staff, and staff alumni. If you'd like to see some of the fun that was had online, log on to Facebook and search #CanyonCamp). You can learn more and see some of the photos on our official website at www.canyoncampbsa.org/canyonday or on the Camp Youtube Channel here.
