You made it through the first week of school- now what? It is time to roll up your sleeves, create a new routine, and get down to business. It seems daunting, I know. So, let’s start with your mindset.
Researchers have identified 3 types of mindsets- Optimism, Gratitude, and Growth. While all three of these mindsets are operating though out your day, establishing daily practices that target each of these mindsets can be helpful. So, let’s start with your morning.
“When you wake up in the morning, the cells of your body have pushed the reset button. And if you don’t reintroduce negative beliefs about your body or your ability, as soon as you wake up, you have a fresh start.” Abraham Hicks
Does this sound familiar? You wake up and ask yourself, “Now what was I ticked off about yesterday?” You wake up, start scrolling on your phone even before you brush your teeth, and start playing the comparison game. You wake up and play the dread game, dreading your classes, dreading that assignment, dreading that trip to the orthodontist. I always tell my clients: it is like you are intentionally putting on your dirty clothes from the day before. STOP! You are already heading for a miserable day.
What might it look like if you took 5 minutes each morning to work on your Optimism Mindset? Here are some tips. You can do these in bed, in the shower, or while you brush your teeth.
· Make a mental list completing the following prompt- “This Day Will Be Great Because I…. (try to list at least 3 things you can look forward to for the day).
· Commit to repeating the same affirmation for the day- “Today is exactly as it should be. Everything is always working out for me even when it is not perfect.”
· Listen to a 5-minute positive meditation. (click on the link below for a fun one).
These are just a few ways you can take charge of your mindset in the morning.
