Hi everyone! I'm a little late sending out the newsletter this month because last week I was busy attending the annual Association of Medical Illustrators conference in Henderson, NV. I planned to send it out before I left, but I ended up being much busier than anticipated wrapping up some projects before my travels. It took me a while to adjust back to my own time zone, but I'm finally feeling more or less normal again.

Each year, my favorite part of the AMI conference inevitably ends up being the quality time reconnecting with my CIA teachers and fellow alumni, and there are more and more CIA folks attending each year. During my first conference in 2019 there were so few of us that we didn’t even bother having our own alumni lunch (opting instead to crash RIT's), and now look at this incredible group that has grown so much! Many of us volunteer on AMI committees, work at prestigious institutions, or are successfully self-employed, and I’m so proud and grateful to be part of it.

...and I'm still accepting donations to help pay for the cost of framing my ArtPrize entry.

My illustration series "Places I Have Lived" will be displayed at Harmony Brewing Company for the duration of the exhibition, September 14 through October 1. However, the illustrations are not printed or framed yet, and the cost of eleven high quality custom frames will end up being quite expensive. To update you on the project itself, I've been making small tweaks to some of the illustrations so they look extra polished and exhibition-ready. I've also opted for a solid background color instead of the textured swatch of color in the original versions, for a refreshed and more eye-catching aesthetic. I won't be writing another book review for the AMI newsletter until at least August, so I don't have any specific books (or book reviews) to pass along right now. Instead, below are links and resources related to some of my favorite conference sessions from last week that I think you might also enjoy.

This is a digital figure study I painted in Procreate last month over the course of a few sessions, totaling about 3.5 hours. Most of the work I do does not demand realism, but occasionally I like to remind myself (and especially others) that I'm capable of it.
