A journey along Incredible India

It has been a wonderful and productive time in India last month, where with my team we were dedicated a big part of the time to film the last stage of the documentary film, "True World of Mantra and Sacred Music from India." Each single interaction with those who are contributing to this project is a gift for me as a musician, as film maker, as Indian. I am a true admirer and feel more and more humbled by all the wisdom and knowledge that India has always showered, since millennia. Some of these gems are hidden, but it is worth the trip to remote corners of this land to find them and receive the gift of their wisdom and stories, probably passed from generations and generations... in this way, they are able to share with us small secrets and treasures which have contributed to the mystery and richness of this incredible land.

MANTRA YOGA

Using Mantra with sincerity and understanding is very important - if not key - in the path of Mantra Yoga, like it would be with any other tool or science.

Those inclined towards negative emotions will benefit from Mantra Japa. When facing adversity, trouble, pain, suffering or disease mantra Japa can help deal with such situations, as you may be conducted to find the solution within. Mantra helps you bring your focus inwards, instead of being driven by so many worldly distractions and maya (illusions.)

Important is to know what is really Mantra, keep the practice private, not expecting a benefit, and do it with sincerity and dedication for onerself. If the purpose and practice is right, you will enjoy the bliss of this wonderful tool from India, the beautiful world of Mantra Yoga.

Below in a video Manish explained what is not Mantra, based on frequent misconceptions in the west, and the need to know what is what, before one embarks in the journey of this sacred tradition from India.

Celebrations in Bhãrat (India) these days

We are currently going through the auspicious time of Chaitra Navratri which is a nine-day festival celebrated in the month of Chaitra. It holds immense religious significance in India. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine different forms, each representing a specific energy or shakti. The word "Navratri" is derived from two words, "Nav" which means nine and "Ratri" which means nights, thus symbolizing the nine nights of worship and celebration. It's also known as Vasanta Navratri as it marks the arrival of spring.

Rama Navami, the celebration of Lord Rama's birth anniversary is observed as the conclusion of Chaitra Navratri, this year March 30. The day is significant as it marks the birth of Lord Rama, who is considered to be one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, the sustainer. Lord Rama is believed to be an ideal human being and a symbol of truth, righteousness, and virtue. He is also known for his bravery, courage, and devotion to his duty.

Hanuman Jayanti is on April 6, the birthday of Hanuman who is highly adored by all! He is known to be one of the outstanding heroes from the great Indian Epic ‘Ramayana’. Especially the loving devotees of Lord Hanuman celebrate this occasion with immense devotion and zeal.

Chanting this shloka as much as possible is considered auspicious particularly on this date. It helps nullify troubles and sorrows, and fills one with the needed strength to overcome the struggles easily. May the Lord Hanuman liberate you from all fears and remove evil forces from your life. Celebrate a joyful and peaceful Hanuman Jayanti!

MUSIC REVIEW

INDIA MY LOVE, the latest album by Manish Vyas

"The real use of music is to become musical in your mind." The beautiful quote from the mystic Hazrat Inayat Khan goes perfectly with the latest CD from the Swiss-based Indian musician, singer and composer Manish Vyas. The sometimes wistful, sometimes uplifting melodies, inspired by eastern ragas, touch the heart and open wide spaces in the body. They awaken a longing for India, which for me is more of a love story than a country.

With its seven pieces of music, “India my love” is a declaration of love for India. India is not only his homeland, but connects him "a love story with the divine, with beauty, grace, simplicity and wisdom," he writes. For him, the greatest gift that India has given to the world is music: "The ragas created by the rishis and sages were simply the musical manifestation of their deepest meditative states." With his songs, Manish Vyas wants to reflect the nature of the magical land, bringing its soul, depth and meditative space to life. He is convinced that mystical tones take us beyond everyday life so that we can connect with the infinite. For me, that always works with his music.

Sanatan Dharma – The original form of what is known as 'hinduism'

How old is Sanatan Dharma? Sanatan Dharma is eternal and has been there for an infinite amount of time. Within the current mind-timeframe, we can say that it is as old as Lord Brahma. The age of the current Brahma equals about 155 trillion human years.

Sanatan Dharma means eternal truth. It is universal, which means it applies to all people at all times. The real and original name of "hinduism" is sanatan dharma which is not a religion, but a path of excellence, a universal code of conduct based on natural laws, consciousness and truth.

The word Sanatan comprises two words, Sana and Tana. Sana means without any beginning, and Tana means without any end. Therefore, meaning eternal. Dharma is derived from Sanskrit ‘Dhar,’ which means “that which holds together.” Therefore, Sanatan Dharma means “the eternal law” - laws that were there at the time of the inception of the universe and would be there when it would cease to exist.

So it is not a religion but a way of life. As time passed by, different paths emerged from the womb of Sanatan Dharma, like Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Buddhism, Jainism, Shaktism, and many others. Some of them survived and some of them disappeared, but the root - the fire - is one and still same.

"Meditation is not contemplation. Meditation is not concentration. Meditation is a state of being."

"When one is existentially ready for a new shift, it happens without fail. So one should learn to live in trust – without expectation, without demand, without complaint... Cherishing the feeling of "thy will be done" deep in the heart, so that one is shifted naturally towards higher planes of life." Gurudev
