From Farms Like Ours
Beating the Heat (and the Flies)
Summer poses some challenges for our cattle, including heat and pesky flies. As temperatures rise, we ensure cattle don't get over-heated by turning on fans in the barn and making sure they have access to continuously fresh and cool water. Cattle also have plenty of shade to get out from under the sun.
Adding to cattle discomfort, flies become an issue, causing irritation and potential health issues. We install fly traps in the barn. We also add a cattle rub to the pasture area. Cattle can freely walk under the rub, and it leaves behind fly repellent - keeping the flies at bay and the cows happy.
