Looking Ahead4th of JulyIf you're from the area, we encourage you to check out the Raymond 4th of July Fest! It's one of our favorites PLUSSS The Depot will be there grilling ground beef patties from Hansen's. Check out everything the festival has to offer at www.rcbo.club.
 
We will also be changing our hours slightly with the holiday. We will be closing at 4:00 pm on July 3rd and closed on July 4th. 

From Farms Like Ours Beating the Heat (and the Flies)Summer poses some challenges for our cattle, including heat and pesky flies. As temperatures rise, we ensure cattle don't get over-heated by turning on fans in the barn and making sure they have access to continuously fresh and cool water. Cattle also have plenty of shade to get out from under the sun. 
 
Adding to cattle discomfort, flies become an issue, causing irritation and potential health issues. We install fly traps in the barn. We also add a cattle rub to the pasture area. Cattle can freely walk under the rub, and it leaves behind fly repellent - keeping the flies at bay and the cows happy. 

You Ask. We Answer!How big of a pig do I need for my pig roast?Summer is the perfect time to get some friends together and have a pig roast! We suggest 1 lb of pig per 1 person. For example, if you are feeding 150 people, we would suggest you order a 150 lb pig. 
 
Looking to order a roasting pig? Here are some things to note when you order one through us: 
Pigs weigh 60 to 200 lbs 
Pricing includes the pig and harvest and varies for the size of the pig
Pigs need to be ordered at least one week in advance
We harvest pigs on Thursday's

Out of the Farm Wife's KitchenSpaghetti SauceSkip the pre-canned sauce, and give this easy spaghetti sauce recipe a try! It's one of our favorites. 
Ingredients: 
1 1/2 lbs hamburger (salt and pepper it)
1 onion, diced
2 cans tomato sauce (15 oz) - Huntz
1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
1 c water
1 can tomato soup
1 T oregano
1/2 t garlic salt
 
Steps: 
Brown hamburger and onion. Season with salt and pepper. 
Add remaining ingredients into a medium/large sauce pan.
Simmer together for 30-45 minutes.
Serve over spaghetti noodles.
