Houston Alumnae Association

JUNE 2021 NEWSLETTER

Out of an abundance of caution, National Council cancelled our in-person Convention due to the pandemic. However, we will be host our first ever virtual National Convention from June 25-27, 2021. It should be a robust virtual experience that will leave you feeling inspired and excited for the future, all from the comfort of your own home.

Alpha Xi Delta holds National Convention every two years. This meeting serves as the time for conducting national chapter business and provides an opportunity for interaction between alumnae and collegiate members.
Among the highlight's of this year's convention are:

Friday evening's keynote address - We Were Made for This! Presented by Tina VanSteenbergen

Sororities were designed to get us through hard times. When our Founders needed a place to share, learn and grow, they found it in a collective of women. And people agreed with them!  Our organizations grew and grew because of the value that they give to the lives of women.  Now, after months and months of uncertainly, NOW more than ever is a time to lean in to our Sisterhood.  NOW is when we grow together instead of apart. NOW is when we show the world the power of sorority membership.

Saturday's State of the Sorority address followed by educational sessions - Walking into Wellbeing:  Sustainable Ways to Make Each Day Awesome; So, You Were in a Sorority? Correction, we ARE in a sorority; no past tense here!; and, Stop Apologizing:  Let Your Confidence Shine!

Scenes from Autism Speaks Chef Gala

Friday, June 11, 2021

The Westin Houston Medical Center

Guests enjoyed unique culinary creations from renowned Houston Chefs and restaurants, assisted by Junior Sous Chefs who are either children or young adults on the spectrum.
Ten percent (10%) of net funds raised this year at all Autism Speaks chef events nationwide will support the newly created Autism Speaks Culinary Cares Fund. This fund provides $500 relief grants to culinary industry employees affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with demonstrated need who have autism or another intellectual or developmental disability, or who care for someone who does. In addition to the relief grants, applicants on the spectrum will be the first to have access to our newly developed coaching platform, which provides individualized support, professional development, upskilling and more.
