Langebaan Express Challenge
Hi,
My name is Sofie and I am a Belgian living in Cape Town.
Until a couple of years ago I was quite active and did quite a bit of triathlon and running.
But since I became an entrepreneur (co-founder of Azania Voyages, Lerato Adventures and Sukari Safari) and discovered the African bush and became a safari guide this all take quite a back seat.
Now in lockdown, unable to travel to the bush I decided to take up swimming again, also thanks to a push from my friend Dave. And he took it even further by challenging me to participate in the Langebaan Express.
This is a 6km tidal assisted swim in Langebaan in the West Coast National Park (Western Cape South Africa) on 21 November 2020.
Now what you maybe need to know is that the furthest I have swum ever is 3.2 km and that I have a mild form of cerebral palsy which makes that I am not the best or fastest swimmer.
But, known as Sofie Die Hard by my friends, I am always up for a challenge, especially as in this case I would love to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness and money for The Small Village, a non-profit-organization that I am involved in, that focusses predominantly on Women Empowerment in South Africa and Botswana in particular.
The Small Village is a Swiss non-profit-organization, which is dedicated to women and children in Botswana. Through our close networking with the local community and our environmental focus, we engage in a holistic and goal-oriented way. Our mission is based on three interlinked parts: Access to education, access to the national health system and empowerment of financial independence (business development).
We put our heart and soul into this project, this is clear - but how did the team come together. If we have not worked together in the same team for 4 years, partly in the financial sector, then we are certainly related or married to each other. This creates a basis of trust and a sense of community, which are essential for a heart project.
So, I hope you will follow and support me on this journey on @Sofiediehard (IG) or Sofie Moens (FB) as I get myself ready for the big day!
