Why Savasana?

No class on MLK Day Monday the 21st

Class per usual on Thursday 12:45 the 24th

class is full, but ping me for wait list...life happens

Savasana - relaxation pose - is often referred to as the most important time of class. While some of you melt at the idea, others have a little less fuzzy feelings.

Letting go, surrendering and silencing one’s mental-chatter can be surprisingly challenging…and it is not to be confused with nap-time either! So what are the benefits of settling in and embracing this time?

Savasana allows us the chance to draw inward with mental intention that initiates the many elements involved in the body’s relaxation response. With the support of the earth below, the nervous system feels safe, which gives the body a chance to soften and settle in.

Savasana is essentially a form of meditation, and as you may have heard, meditation is the bomb! Science leaves little room to argue the benefits …I will list just a few below (sorry, no references this time but they are easy to google):

  • Lowers inflammation
  • Improves immune system function
  • Brightens cognitive skills and creative thinking
  • Boosts mental strength and focus
  • Enhances self-acceptance
  • Reduces worry, anxiety
  • Strengthens resiliency

This is a good start in our savasana series, more to follow.

This coming week we will be taking the time to find a restful, restorative version of this final rest pose - whatever that looks like for you. We will also focus on lengthening and strengthening the side body, see the below video for an idea of what to look forward too.

Much love,

Jen
