You Belong Here!

We are proud to be a community of almost 18k strong filled with warriors, caretakers, physicians, advocates, and allies of all different backgrounds! From Australia to Japan, from 14 to 114, Fight Like A Warrior is for YOU! No matter who you are, if you stand with us in our mission to unite, advocate, and empower warriors, there is a place for you! We hope you feel accepted in this space and free to express yourself. Especially in the world of health, individuals and groups can have their battles be dismissed or pushed to the side. Sometimes we can feel like we don't belong anywhere. You always belong here! We strive to elevate everyones voice and create a space for all. Thank you for joining us in proving #sickfightsback - showing us what it means to #fightlikeawarrior - and for pushing for the patient voice in healthcare. Together, we are so strong!

We Are Visible

This month on the blog Karina Sturm shared about her journey with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and creating her documentary, We Are Visible. If you have not seen it, it is a phenomenal film. Click below to read all about this incredible warrior and her groundbreaking film!

"I realized, if I wanted to be seen, I had to change these misconceptions and prejudices myself! And when I started studying journalism in 2018, I immediately knew what I wanted to do: I was going to produce a film about people with an invisible condition, specifically Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, called ’We Are Visible.’" -Karina Sturm

Warrior of the Month - Katie

@katies.chronic.journey

Our amazing Warrior of the Month for January is Katie!

Katie is currently fighting a LOT, including: colonic paralysis, a connective tissue disorder, POTS, autonomic dysfunction, gastroparesis, chronic pain (fibromyalgia), a neurogenic bladder, just over a 1.5 years post-op from spinal fusion to correct scoliosis, and has a suspected autoimmune condition. Her organization, Katie’s Cozies, is her motivation to fight each day. Through KC’s, she makes and donates fleece blankets to the inpatient kids at her local children’s hospital after receiving one of her own a year ago. Her family, friends, and fellow spoonies also motivate her to stay strong through the chaos of each day, and she is truly thankful to them.Despite the challenges she faces, Mandy refuses to let chronic illness define her! She strives to bring awareness not only to the illnesses she faces, but to all conditions!

Ambassador of the Month - Mollee (@molleeisme23)

We are so excited to introduce our January Ambassador of the Month, Mollee!

Mollee is a Lupus, APS, and RA Warrior! 🤙 Learning to live with an illness that no one else can see is a struggle unto itself, doing it alone, is near impossible. That’s why Mollee says she is thankful to have found @fightlikeawarrior,  "a community that not only supports individuals with chronic illnesses, but raises awareness for others!"

In her free time, she really enjoys spending time with her husband, their fur baby, and foraging for mushrooms! (Amateur Mycologists/Biology major here lol) She has enjoyed becoming an FLAW advocate and is happy to answer any questions to the best of her knowledge about any of her illnesses.

We are so thankful to have Mollee as an Ambassador!

Thank you so much for reading Fight Like A Warrior's monthly newsletter! Because of your support, our organization has been able to create an incredible community of chronic illness warriors who prove every single day that #SickFightsBack. If you know a warrior that could use a little extra support & encouragement, remember to request a card for them! Keep fighting everyone!
