Through Appreciating Earth I foster environmental awareness, scientific knowledge, & planetary appreciation. We all consciously & unconsciously change the environment, Earth education helps us understand how we impact our planet. Join me to Appreciate Earth! Awareness is a prelude to respect, projected into the world as appreciation |

Your Body is Your Earth Observing Instrument |

How do you interact with the Earth? Humans have an intimate connection with the Earth, all plant and animal Earthlings do - we evolved to survive on this planet. But humans can consciously hone our connection to our planet by developing our observational and experiential skills. As a geologist, a yoga teacher, and a fitness instructor, I have chosen paths of knowledge that hone my body & mind for Earth observation, which has served to deepen my appreciation for our planet. Click to read the rest of the blog post & to delve into the following questions... How do you sense your location on Earth? How do you enhance your body's ability to move on Earth? How can you enhance your sensory abilities? How do you use your body to appreciate Earth? |

Earth’s continents are on the move, as they always have been. Through plate tectonics the landmasses are carried by the motions of the mantle below and are steered by the formation and destruction of oceanic plates. This class will follow the deep time adventures of Earth’s continents, as we learn how they have moved across the Earth’s surface over time, been impacted by volcanism, been shifted by earthquakes, and built by the process of continental accretion. The movements record an echo of the ancient oceans & ecosystems otherwise lost to time. We will track the climate changes recorded in the rocks accumulating on each continent as the landmasses evolved through tropical, temperate, and polar environments in seemingly endless iterations. {OLLI is a learning community for adults age 50+ years old that offers class without homework or tests} |
