Spring 2024 Newsletter

hello

Welcome Spring!

Spring is here along with SWL's second newsletter update, direct from the farm.

It's been a year since our last update, and we've been busy with the farm and developing new lavender-based products.

We hope that 2024 is a positive year for all, and that this season of renewal is just the beginning!

We hope you enjoy!

what's new

SWL continues to make and develop new hand-crafted lavender-based products using only lavender cultivated and processed at our farm without the use of any chemicals. We incorporate all-natural ingredients, vintage and upcycled items, and reusable containers.

hydrosols

Hydrosol is the aromatic water that remains after steam-distilling lavender essential oil.

SWL hydrosols are 100% pure steam distilled all-natural Lavandula x intermedia hydrosol from lavender we grow and harvest at our farm.

Lightly mist into the air to freshen the car, home, or workspace.

Spritz on towels or on bedding to wind down at the end of the day, or add to water in the humidifier.

bath salts

SWL bath salts combine Epsom and Dead Sea Salts infused with SWL lavender essential oil and dried all-natural SWL 'grosso' lavender flowers in a reusable glass jar.

Add to warm water to soak and relax mind and body, Epsom salts can detoxify and soothe tired muscles.

Dead Sea Salts are a natural exfoliant and contain minerals which can assist in cleansing and detoxifying.

lavender wands

SWL offers a modern twist on traditional Victorian lavender wands.

The wand encases the fragrance of the flower and is traditionally placed in closets, drawers, or cabinets, to keep clothes fresh-smelling and moth-free.

Our lavender wands will last for many years, and to reinvigorate the fragrance. Gently squeeze or roll the wand between your hands.

vintage pomanders

Place SWL pomanders in a drawer,

bag, suitcase, or closet for a fresh scent, and to keep moths away.

Lavender fragrance comes from oils in all parts of the plant, and will last for many years.

To refresh or invigorate the fragrance in a lavender pomander or sachet, gently squeeze, shake, or roll it.

wall pockets

Vintage, often hand-made, our wall pockets that are filled with dried SWL lavender can hang in any space to add a bit of charm and fragrance.

all about lavender

Lavender has been used in the preparation of food for hundreds of years, and English Lavender is the most common culinary lavender because of its sweet floral flavor.

Use the flower bud for cooking: dried buds are stronger than fresh buds.

Stored in an airtight container, dried buds will maintain their fragrance and flavor for at least a year.

There are Five Main Types of Lavender

1.  ENGLISH LAVENDER, Lavandula angustifolia

  • Native to the Mediterranean, not England, and often referred to as Culinary Lavender or sometimes called True Lavender

  • Forty-seven known varieties, and the plants have narrow smooth leaves

2.  FRENCH LAVENDER, Lavandula dentata

  • Native to Eastern and Southern Spain, and is sometimes called Fringed Lavender with toothed leaves

3.  SPANISH LAVENDER, Lavandula stoechas

  • Native to the Mediterranean and Northern Africa, and is sometimes called Butterfly Lavender, with deep purple pinecone shaped flowers bloom continuously mid-spring to fall and are not fragrant.

4.  PORTUGUESE LAVENDER, Lavandula latifolia

  • Native to the western Mediterranean, heat tolerant, and sometimes called Spike Lavender

5.  LAVANDIN, Lavandula x intermedia, ‘Grosso’

  • A natural hybrid lavender discovered in a deserted lavender field in France in 1972 that is hardy and has a high oil content

    • A mix of Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifolia

to be continued........

Today is the first day of spring, and June lavender harvest is on the horizon!

We'll be busy planting, harvesting, and developing new products.

We hope to see you at the Fair Play Wineries Sip & Shop Travel Market!

As always, we appreciate your interest in the farm and all things lavender!
