The italian photographer Mattia Morelli had long been searching for methods to unite photography and painting in a single, powerful concept when he – almost by chance – created the technique that led to the present series SPACE SPOTTED.

During printing tests on sheets of oily paper he experienced an almost symbolic conflict between the ‘oil of the painting’ and the ‘ink of the photography’ when he realized that these two ‘art worlds’ represented by oil and water would never mix properly. Actually the two different materials ended up completely annihilating

each others motives – it seemed.But as the sheets dried up Mattia Morelli found that the motives had fused into something new and beautiful. Small autonomous worlds appeared where the fluid ink had met with the oily paper. Purely abstract in nature and yet somehow resembling imaginary planets with ancient and scarred surfaces and mysterious star clouds made out of primordial energy - hidden somewhere out there. No, the swarms of ink dots by Mattia Morelli in SPACE SPOTTED are anything but ordinary.

As a start-up there's always things we can do better. So far our main focus has been building up a wide range of artists, knowing our site was not optimal.
