Beginning 2018 - A Winter Wrap Up |
This year began with a few speaking engagements. In February, I gave a talk about Mauro Giuliani and Gioachino Rossini prior to Lukasz Kuropaczewski's concert for the John E. Marlow Guitar Series. I was happy that so many people attended the lecture and were enthusiastic about topic as we listened to excerpts from Rossini operas and spoke of Vienna and Italy in the early 19th century. My next engagements were with Loudoun County Public Schools. This year's LCPS ensemble festivals (hosted by Drs. Kevin Vigil and Adam Kossler) celebrated women in guitar. Guest artists for the festivals included the Bejing Guitar Duo, Helen Sanderson, Kami Rowan, Martha Masters, Kim Perlak and Andrea Cannon. I was invited to adjudicate and give presentations about women guitarists and composers from throughout history. It was a wonderful opportunity to share stories, music and recordings with students and colleagues. On March 18th, I performed and spoke on air with radio host Tom Cole at WPFW studios in Washington D.C. We discussed guitarists such as Madame Sydney Pratten, Emilia Giulani, Maria Luisa Anido and Ida Presti, and Tom played some tracks from my CD, Reverie. Music from the CD was also featured on In Tune on BBC Radio 3 in February and a very nice review of the album was published in the Spring 2018 issue of Classical Guitar Magazine. Thanks again to everyone who supported making the recording. |

Upcoming Performances I'll be playing electric and acoustic guitars for the Maryland Symphony Orchestra's upcoming family concert, Disney: A Tale As Old As Time, on April 7 and 8 at the historic Maryland Theater. The show incorporates a wonderful variety of music and will be fun for all ages. I'll also be playing guitar for the Washington National Opera's production of Barber of Seville at the Kennedy Center from April 28 - May 19. The guitar is featured in the first act, accompanying two songs: "Ecco, ridente in cielo" and "Se il mio nome saper voi bramate." I am looking forward to performing a trio concert with flutist Nora Suggs and guitarist John Arnold on May 6 at St. Peter's Church in Bethlehem, PA. John is a fellow Shenandoah University alumnist and we both play guitars made by the same Australian luthier. The program will feature music by Fernando Sor, Agustin Barrios, William Foden, Domenico Scarlatti, Laurent Boutros and Astor Piazzolla for various combinations of guitars and flute. Plans for summer include solo concerts and possibly a house-concert tour with guitarist Michael DeLalla (email if you'd like more information about hosting a concert). Visit my website for a full schedule and follow me on Bandsintown if you'd like email alerts for events in your area. |
