Courage Club Corner

Our Courage Club met in July at a Happy Hour and again in August for a free surf lesson courtesy of Kyle at Carolina Salt Surf Lessons. It was a great morning of meeting new friends, overcoming challenges, and stepping out of comfort zones. You know, just another day for these cancer fighting rockstars!

Reflections on the Importance of Courage Club

Brenda Bianchi, a member of our board, attended a Courage Club event in July. I asked her to share her thoughts and reflections after the event. For those who haven't had the pleasure of seeing this great mission in action, please read on to see a glimpse of the good work that happens at these monthly gatherings.

In July, I joined Katherine at Ms. Roses for the Courage Club happy hour.  It was such a nice event gathering together to talk with everyone.  New Courage Club members attended for and the bonding began among the group.  I was so overwhelmed with how wonderful this experience was, being able to witness the Courage Club's purpose in action.  I did not have much to offer to the conversations since I'm not "in the club," but enjoyed watching the group talk, laugh, share stories about their diagnosis.  Seeing how the three complete strangers behaved like forever friends was so inspiring.  It was obvious to me that a cancer diagnosis is something that bonds people immediately.

During this time, I did not see fear, sadness, or heartache that I thought one with a cancer diagnosis would carry with them.  Instead I saw comfort, strength, understanding, relief, and even joy.  I was so honored to become a part of the Boon Project team from the very beginning, but this moment brought my passion to a whole new level.  I look forward to more exciting events that this amazing non-profit has in store!

Back to School BBQ

We teamed up with The Lonon Foundation and hosted a back to school BBQ in Mt. Pleasant last weekend. The Lonon Foundation exists to support families, specifically minor children, of those facing a cancer diagnosis. We enjoyed meeting new friends at this event and helping the children of some pretty amazing cancer warriors have a carefree afteroon. If you, or someone you know, is facing a cancer diagnosis while also raising their family, please visit thelononfoundation.org

Courage Stories

We've started a new series on our website called "Courage Stories." Young Adults face unique challenges in their cancer fight. The Boon Project exists to help address those challenges so that the young adults will be more empowered and able to focus on their healing. In this, we strive to highlight certain aspects of the young adult cancer fight as viewed through the stories of some of the members of our "Courage Club." Please visit the link below on our website to view the series. New videos are published monthly.
