Dedication, Discipline, and Determination

Karley Ware's Success in Taekwondo

July 2023 - The world of martial arts brings together dedication, discipline, and determination. One of our very own who has embraced this journey with passion and determination is Karley Ware, 12, of Sturgis, a dedicated practitioner of Taekwondo. With three years of practice under her belt, Karley has not only honed her skills but has also achieved remarkable success.

For the past three years, Karley has been practicing Taekwondo, a Korean martial art renowned for its emphasis on high, fast kicks and dynamic movements. This journey has been nurtured under the guidance of Sensi Donna Rhodes at God's Warriors gym in Dunlap, Tennessee.

When asked about her favorite aspect of Taekwondo, Karley said it's a blend of physical fitness, new friendships, and the continuous quest for learning new things.

Karley's dedication and passion have recently culminated in a stunning victory at the 2023 World Martial Arts Games in Daytona Beach, Florida. She clinched an impressive haul of 4 gold medals and 2 bronze medals across various categories. The medals were earned through outstanding performances in events such as Extreme Musical Weapons, Extreme Musical Hand Forms, Non-Traditional Musical Weapons, Non- Traditional/Creative Weapons, Japanese/Okinawa Hand Forms, and Korean Patterns. This remarkable achievement serves as a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence and her mastery of the art form.

Karley's eyes are set on the future, specifically on achieving the coveted black belt status. Beyond personal accomplishments, she will continue representing her skills on a competitive platform. As Karley continues her journey towards a black belt and further competitive success we wish her well!

Sturgis Honors Former Chief of Police with a Memorial Highway Section

August 10, 2023 - In a touching tribute to a dedicated public servant and beloved community member, the Town of Sturgis unveiled a heartfelt memorial by naming a section of its highway after its former Chief of Police, the late Louis Jones.

The ceremony, held on August 10, brought together community members, law enforcement personnel, and family to celebrate the life and legacy of a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the town and its people.

For many years, Chief Jones served as the town's stalwart guardian, upholding the law with compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Known for his warm demeanor and approachability, Chief Jones always made time for residents, making them feel heard and valued. He was more than just a law enforcer; he was a friend to many.

The selected stretch of the highway, Sturgis-Maben Road to Sturgis-Louisville Road, which runs through the heart of the town, will now forever bear the name “G. Louis Jones Memorial Highway." It serves as a poignant reminder of the numerous contributions he made to the community during his tenure as Chief of Police.

Little Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

August 17, 18, 19

The Little Sturgis Motorcycle Rally roared to life once again, attracting an impressive turnout of 5,000 to 6,000 visitors. What began years ago has evolved into a vibrant and eagerly anticipated annual event that showcases the unity of motorcycle enthusiasts from all walks of life.

The weekend kicked off with the revving of engines and the unmistakable hum of motorcycles converging on the town. The event's organizers worked diligently to create an environment that welcomes everyone, from veteran bikers to newcomers.

Attendees were treated to an impressive lineup of activities, including:

  1. Classic Car Show - Kicking the weekend off Thursday night was the Little Sturgis Car and Bike Show co-sponsored by the Choctaw Cruisers.

  2. Food and Vendors: Food trucks and vendors lined the streets, offering a tantalizing variety of cuisines and unique merchandise. The aroma of sizzling street food wafted through the air as visitors explored the stalls between motorcycle displays.

  3. Dinner Ride: Escorted by MS Highway Patrol, 131+ bikes left Sturgis Friday afternoon headed towards Starkville where they stopped at Village Cycle Center before heading to their next stop at the Louisville Coliseum and returning to Sturgis for dinner via Ackerman.

  4. Live Music: The rally's main stage hosted a lineup of local and regional bands and artists, providing the perfect soundtrack for the weekend. Music genres ranged from rock and blues to country, ensuring that there was something for everyone's musical taste.

  5. Sound & Bike Show: Saturday enthusiasts showcased their prized possessions in a dazzling display of creativity and craftsmanship. From classic choppers to modern cruisers, the array of motorcycles was a feast for the eyes.

  6. Charity Initiative: The rally also embraced its role in providing an opportunity to give back. The Hamasa Shriners hosted a teddy bear run Saturday morning with riders donating stuffed animals for the children.

  7. Bike Games - There were a variety of bike games held in the park Saturday afternoon by the Christian Motorcycle Association offering prizes to the winners.

  8. Blessing of the Bikes - The weekend concluded Sunday morning with the Blessing of the Bikes in the park praying for safe travels to everyone heading back home.

The Little Sturgis Motorcycle Rally once again proved that passion, diversity, and a sense of community can come together to create an extraordinary event. As the engines quieted and the sun set on the event, it was clear that the memories made and connections formed would resonate with participants until the next rally.
