Pacing Myself

Looks like the summer season is here indeed as several school districts have closed their doors on another semester. I'm officially done with the children's book and am still taking a break from curriculum illustration. The nights don't dip into the 60's anymore and though the humidity still hints that spring isn't done springing, summer is very much at hand.

Even I have a bonfire of spirited summer plans underway sparked from a recent jolt of inspiration, which has been a long time coming. If you've been around for the past few weeks/months you know my creative tank has been stuck on empty for a while. And my God it's nice to have ideas again! But, all will be revealed in due time, there is a method to the madness. Before I give too much away let's get to the good stuff shall we: new comics!

Notes: This week marks my attempt to get back in the swing of an After Death comic page a week. I missed my personal deadline to get it done by Thursday-but it was done in plenty enough time to hit the newsletter. No real notes for this page though I noticed Spencer wishes bad things will happen to him so other people will feel bad for what he might have to go through. But I'm not sure it works like that. My youngest son would get so mad at his older brother when he was aggravating him that he'd go to his room and take his anger out on his own toys and break or destroy them. I mean, I commend him for not taking it out on his brother, but dude, don't break your own stuff.

May's Sticker Design

If I'm consistently running behind on anything, it's the Patreon sticker club. I probably say this every time but it's very true. Most things I can stay on top of, but the sticker designs, ordering, and shipping always seem about 2 weeks off. Regardless, I've started offering sticker sheets now for all patrons. It felt appropriate to have New Orleans be the theme for the first sticker sheet design since I'm already obsessed with the city and it plays such a big part of my storytelling and artwork. If you dig the design you can still join up before the end of May and I'll gladly get one of these sticker sheets on its way to your door. Sign up here.

SHOPsquatch Cover Reveal

Last year for Attack the Page, I had Crash Landing finished and ready for printing within a week after the event. I've been pacing myself lately with all the plates I've got spinning and I must say, I don't hate it. When I step back and look at all the "projects" I've got going on anyway, they're all of my own making. Meaning, all the creative projects I've got going on right now are my own. When it comes to art and comics, I'm my own boss at the moment (and that feels really good). So, it's been nice to be able to just work at a consistent manageable pace and get things done as they get done.

All of that preamble is my way of saying SHOPsquatch isn't ready to be read yet, but the cover is done! And that's good enough for right now.

FUN FACT: The mall below Big Foot is based on the Hulen Mall here in Fort Worth, TX.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  • Rhea and I went and saw The Fall Guy this week. What a fun movie. I won't say it was the perfect movie to kick off the summer season, but it's everything a summer movie could be: Action! Romance! Murder! Comedy! It's got it all. Was it Uh-Mazing!! No. But was I smiling while watching it the entire time. Heck yes! What a fun film.

  • Okay so, show me a little grace on this next thing, but I started watching Gravity Falls for the first time yesterday. Remember what I said at the top of the newsletter about "spirited summer plans?" Gravity Falls is a strong indicator of things to come and Rhea and I started doing what we're calling "Saturday Morning Cartoons" where we take Saturday mornings as serious as our inner child does. That means getting up, staying in our jammy-jams and eating breakfast while watching cartoons in the movie room. Gravity Falls is a show I'd never seen but know people love. Now I understand why.

Welp it's time to break up the party. All good things come to an end, but no worries, just like your favorite Saturday morning cartoon, I'll be back next week around the same time to deliver some indie comic goodness and maybe a whole lot more. As always, I appreciate you reading and being here and I hope to see you around soon.
