The folks at SewGreen were very busy during the last weeks of November. On the 22nd and 23rd we had a table at the Rochester Student Steam Fest and Maker Faire then the following week was Green Friday! Both events were a big success. We are so excited and impressed at the numbers of people of all ages that joined us for these events. We still have plenty of activities left for December. You might want to make a crazy quilt block or create some felted elf shoes - no felting experience necessary - on Saturday the 7th. Then, stop in on Monday the 9th for a free activity we call 'Simple Gifts'. On the 14th take a class to learn how to make felted mittens from reclaimed felt sweaters - makes a great 'green' and homemade gift! December is a busy month, check our calendar and class descriptions for all the details.
Many of you are new to our Newsletter, as we signed up almost 40 new contacts in the past two weeks. If you know someone that signed up, but did not receive this newsletter, please direct them to our contact page on our website. Please note that the shop is closed from the end of the day on December 21st (5PM) until the morning of December 26th at 11AM. Also, we will be closed on December 31st and January 1st. Believe it or not, the January 2020 Calendar is posted on our website! Read on to see the fun we've been having at SewGreen! |

The Rochester Maker Faire |
Once again SewGreen at the Rochester Maker Faire was as busy and noisy as ever as teachers from school districts as far away as Bath, NY brought their students to Friday's SteamFest. Georgia showed the kids how to use the Treadle Sewing Machine while Linda, Deb, Josefina, and Jane were busy showing the kids how to hand sew book marks, and to sew on an electric sewing machine. We all enjoyed the day teaching kids how to sew. They loved it too! The machines were humming all day long! And over 40 people signed up to recieve our newsletter! |
On Saturday, many, many people attended the 2019 Rochester Maker's Faire. Hands on activity is what SewGreen offered. Thanks to our volunteers, many little pillows were created by new sewists. |
And here we have the many happy faces of all the sewists with their finished pillow! |

From button trees to woolen mittens, what a fabulous Green Friday at SewGreen@Rochester. We had a record 55 happy sewers making gifts and crafts from reclaimed fabric and trim. The shop was buzzing with joy from 10 am until after 4PM! So exciting and proud to see so many new and returning Green Friday participants. |
Special thanks to Experience FiberArts for bringing a supply of fabric post cards to decorate and personalize. |
Also, special thanks to Diane Philips for bringing her stash of reclaimed felted wool to help the "Green Friday" makers make warm and cozy mittens! |
