As we approach spring here in the Methow Valley, we would like to share some ideas that we're excited about from our current landscape projects.

Pavers create walking and sitting space that's a bit more refined than concrete slabs. They can be softened with tight planting in-between, like our native stone-crop.

Cut granite slabs can create natural and inviting landscape steps. If specified correctly the walking surface is non-slip.

Benches are a welcome addition to any landscape, whether it's a flat boulder, or a floating indoor/outdoor bench like the left image from one of our current projects, or a bench integrated with steps like the right image that we designed for Brown's Farm.

We generally prefer native plants. The Audubon Society does a good job of listing advantages of native plants in the link below.

Why native plants matter

When selecting plants we like to think about blooming and color to create year-round interest.

Serviceberry (top left) is usually the first to bloom in the spring with beautiful white flowers. Mock Orange (top right) blooms in the summer and has a wonderful fragrance. Red Osier Dogwood (bottom left) is very showy with bright red stems, especially through the winter. Aspen Trees (bottom right) make good company with their fluttering leaves. The leaves take on an almost fluorescent green hue in early spring and a sunny yellow in the fall. Their white bark is pretty year round.

NEW INSPIRATION!

We were recently in Palm Springs for Modernism Week. After touring projects by modern masters we came home excited with fresh inspiration for ways to connect landscape and architecture.
