Water Monitoring & Reporting Working Group

In Fall 2019, the Working Group entered into a partnership with  MOECCS to jointly resource the 6-month Water Monitoring & Reporting Initiative (WMRI).  The WMRI's objective is to enhance water monitoring and reporting efforts through increased communication and collaboration in BC.  As part of this innovative initiative, several Collaborative Working Group and the Province are jointly resourcing two part-time coordinators to develop a work plan to enhance water monitoring and reporting in initiatives and partnerships in BC.  The work plan will be presented to a joint steering committee in April 2020.

UNDRIP leads to the creation of BC's "Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act"

 

In November 2019,  the provincial government passed legislation to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The new act aims to set a path forward that respects the human rights of Indigenous peoples while introducing better transparency and predictability in working together.

This position paper describes a genuine opportunity for the provincial government to create an enduring legacy for freshwater in B.C. It was produced through a collaboration between the POLIS Water Sustainability Project, First Nations Fisheries Council, BC Wildlife Federation, and BC Freshwater Legacy Initiative.
