May Newsletter

May is a different kind of crazy busy...like December but somehow worse. Graduation parties, scholarship meetings, end of the year 4-H & Clover Kids meetings & fair entries, Junior National & State Fair entries, band & music concerts, field days, field trips...and the list goes on! I am genuinely a different kind of exhausted.

As we wind down the school year, I am feeling all the feels. Jackson will be leaving Pence to head to the middle school and I still can't believe my kids are old enough for that...to no longer be in the elementary school. We measure time here in days & weeks, well in dog terms....pregnancy & puppy stages. I seem to blink and it has been 3 months, I blink again and we are just about to enter summer.

I remember when my kids were just babies & toddler, I was longing for the days when they would be big enough to do activities. Now, I am dying for a day at home. A day where I don't leave for two days in a row is truly a miracle. The older I get, the more I just want to be home.

As I look toward the next three months, I am already sighing. We have a week long thing each month. In June. we have our County Fair. July is Junior Nationals in Tulsa. Finally, we have the Iowa State Fair in August. I am thankful that we are taking a leap of faith & having Maggie help us out this summer. Knowing we are going to be gone, I will actually be able to sleep at night with her here.

So, here's to the beginning of summer. The long nights in the barn & the lessons learned there.

What I am Reading & Watching

Tired of being tired... anyone else? I am currently in a weird state in my life. I am caught between just finishing 75 Hard, and then Phase 1. I was so focused on completing those certain tasks...now I am at a spot where I have to wait 30 days and I am struggling with no strict guidelines. I have more time, yet I am so much more tired. I am not sure how that is possible...

Wade & I showed the kids another great classic movie... Air Force One. It has been a few years since we ha seen it and we might have forgotten how much actually killing there was. Whoops. Although, we did tell the kids each time it was going to happen. It has a great storyline and spark good conversation at the dinner table.

Meet Maggie!

Wade & I have known Maggie for almost 10 years. We were fortunate to know thru church and youth group. In the last five years, Maggie has helped watch our kids & made it an easy decision to ask her to come Intern with us this summer.

Our family has a few trips (our county fair, Junior Simmental Nationals & Iowa State Fair), and by trips I mean we are showing livestock and having someone here who knows what we do will be a big relief.

I asked her for a quick bio:

I’m Maggie Rayburn. I am originally from Fairfield, and I am currently a sophomore at Iowa State majoring in Animal Science. I have always loved companion animals and grew up with them all around me, whether that is having pets of my own or pet-sitting for others. My future plans include working in animal rehabilitation or training dogs to assist people in their daily lives.

We are so excited to have her here & I look forward a great summer.

Sticky Traps that Work!

Warm weather has arrived & all the buzzing bugs are out in full force. Jackson is absolutely petrified of them & rightfully so. It never fails, he gets stung & it swells. So, we found these & keep them hanging where we go in & out of the barns. It is time to take down last year's & put up new ones.

Monat Pet

When we send puppies home, we send a sample of our favorite pet shampoo from Monat. I signed up to be a Market Partner 5 years ago when they launched and believe in all their products 100%

I used their haircare and skincare line. So does Sydney and Jackson. Wade still uses Melaleuca...it's about the only thing that gets piggy smells out, LOL!
