I apologize for having been missing in action for 6 months and neglecting to send out a newsletter! It has been a dynamic and rich 6 months, filled with everything from learning Botany and plant identification skills, to learning herbal actions, diving deep into making hand crafted herbal oils, to connecting with old friends, soaking up a northeast Autumn, and visiting places of my past, from favorite waterfalls and hikes, to living in the tiny house that I built in my mid twenties. I am particularly excited to share my hand crafted herbal oils with you all. How does it sound to get to choose for your massage whether you want calming lavender oil, nourishing calendula, or warming sage oil, to name just a few of what will be your options? Below you will find out more about what these herbal oils are, and in the coming months I plan to do a post on each herbal oil, diving deep into their potential benefits and uses. As the weather gets colder here I am feeling ready and excited to be back in Charleston, South Carolina and can't wait to share these oils with you! I'll be practicing again at my home in North Charleston, beginning on Friday December 3rd, and at Lotus Healing Center in downtown Charleston beginning most likely on Tuesday, December 7th. |

| | Handcrafted Herbal Oils I have always said Earth Connection is one of the three pillars of my philosophy, along with Mindfulness and a Body Centered approach. The process of making these handcrafted herbal oils and sharing their plant magic with you feels like a perfect way to bring this earth connection piece more into the forefront of my practice. Now let me be clear that I am NOT talking about essential oils. Although essential oils have their place and can be powerful they also take a huge amount of plant matter to make a small amount of oil, and in my opinion are therefore not particularly sustainable. I won't spend too much time on this, but, for example, it takes 250 pound of fresh lavender to make one pound of lavender essential oil, and 10,000 pounds of rose petals to make 1 pound of rose essential oil. This means industrial scale growers who are often using pesticides or other unsustainable practices. And there is no organic certification for essential oils. What I am talking about is small batch, handcrafted herbal infused oils. I am talking about myself giving gratitude to the plant and gathering it with my own two hands, with intention, from the wild or in my garden. Or, sourcing dried plant from a small scale, reputable herb farm. Then I am cutting up the herb, putting it in a blender in my own kitchen, pouring high quality oil over the plant material, and allowing it to infuse into the oil, like you would a tea bag into water, for a couple days to a couple months depending on the plant. | | |
|
| | The process feels akin to cooking a nourishing meal for a loved one, or baking bread. There is care, love, and intention mixing with the aromas and textures of the plant, all becoming part of the final medicine that I then offer to you. Everything, from knowing when is best to harvest a given plant, from getting to know a plant as I harvest and process them, to experiencing their medicine as I use the oils on myself and my clients speaks to the Earth Connection that is so important to me. As you get to partake in choosing what oil you may want to experience during your session, see their colors, breathe their aromas, and feel their effects on your body, my hope is you will also find your understanding and relationship to these plants begins to deepen. I will have two ounce bottles that you can take home with you to practice self care and self massage, perhaps add to your bath, or share with a loved one. And if you want, you can start gathering or growing these herbs and making these oils on your own, and I can help you get started doing all of that! This is the kind of nature connection I am continually cultivating in my life and that I want to bring into your life. Does this sound like something you want? Call 843.284.3235 to Book you massage now and get to experience what I am talking about. There will be no extra cost for using these herbal infused oils during your session, so come experience the bodywork you have come to expect with the added magic of these beautiful plant allies working alongside us! | | |
