Mosney Village Summer Camps

We had a fantastic few weeks this month with 24 young people in Mosney Village where we held our first ever Summer Camp. Lots of new friendships and lasting memories were made by both young people and youth workers.

Two trips to the beach saw some magnificent sand sculptures made while we explored the beach looking for some colourful stones and shells.

In the beautiful Tranquility Garden, we played some very energetic games and had interesting conversations about what's available for young people in Co Meath and Co Louth. Huge thanks to Áine (Community Amenities Coordinator) for inviting us to facilitate the 3 week Summer Camps.

We're all looking forward to our upcoming outdoor adventure in August.

This project was funded and supported by the Dept of Justice Community Integration Fund and Dept of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth UBU Your Place Your Space.

Supporting the re-opening of our Youth Clubs

Youth Work Ireland has recently submitted plans to Government about the need to support youth clubs all around Ireland post Covid as these groups have been severely hit by the restrictions on gathering and meeting over the last 15 months. Youth Clubs are an inherent part of the local community and play a major role in community coherence around Ireland particularly in rural and isolated areas. The organisation has set out a business plan for how to support this critical area of activity in the future. We believe it is incumbent on the Government to put additional resources into these volunteer led youth clubs so that they can plan to re-open as soon as possible once restrictions have been lifted. Young people need to get back to a sense of normality and communities need to have their youth clubs reinstated as soon as possible.

YouthQuake design Emergency Contact information card

YouthQuake have been very busy over the last few months consulting with their peers and gathering emergency contact details that young people will realistically use. They designed the content in a way that is easily accessible. The members of YouthQuake are now preparing to send the pocket-sized information cards to over 15,000 students in 22 Secondary schools in the County.

#KEEPWELL Campaign

While we continue to make sure that we all mind ourselves during these uncertain times, our #KeepWell Campaign bags have been an invaluable resource to our volunteers and young people. Shouts of excitement could be heard when members of our Meath Comhairle na nÓg committee and the new subscribers to our newsletter received their bags recently.

Meath Comhairle na nÓg understand Dementia

Comhairle members recently attended 'Train the Trainer' sessions facilitated by Dementia Ireland and the Alzheimer Association of Ireland.

'The Brain' training workshop will support the Comhairle members who are taking part in the 'Creating a Dementia Inclusive Generation'.

Our Comhairle members will facilitate peer education sessions within their schools from September. The initiative aims to educate students on what dementia is and how we can best support those who develop dementia.

Lightbulb Club

The Lightbulb Club meets every Wednesday evening from 5pm - 6PM.

Due to restrictions we are meeting up online or outdoors (weather permitting).

The group is always looking for new members aged 10-12 years to get involved in fun and games, develop social skills, learn new hobbies and all in a creative, safe and encouraging environment.

'Not Around Us' Campaign

Meath Comhairle na nÓg members were involved in the “not around us” campaign in conjunction with the HSE, Healthy Ireland and Meath County Council. Meath Comhairle assisted in the development of a consultation
piece which went out to young people to get their opinions in relation to smoking and vaping. Organisations can sign up to a charter and ensure there is no smoking or vaping in and near their youth facilities or around the young people who use their services.
