Our Biweekly Newsletter -  7 August 2019

It's August

August is here, and although it is a full month of summer, we begin to transition our focus towards fall. Time to start thinking about fall projects and back to school needs.

A useful item for this time of the year, or any time of year, is a reusable market bag. A market bag that is sturdy and soft, made of donated fabric from SewGreen makes a wonderful statement about caring. Read about several ways SewGreen has helped to incorporate market bags into our community in this newsletter.

Stop in this coming Saturday, August 10th and make your own market bag for free at our "Market Bagathon" going on from 10 - 4. We will supply the fabric and help in creating the bags.

Also, on August 24th,  join us at the 1872 Cafe to paint bags from 11-2. Read on for details.

Crochet Critters - We've got a fun camp coming up next week. August 12 - 16 from 10AM - Noon every day. Learn to crochet shapes into critters! No Experience in Crochet is needed.  Read on for details.

The  September calendar is posted on our website.

Reusable Market Bags

Third Presbyterian Church - food cupboard

Thanks to a generous donation from Sew Green Rochester, over 70 re-useable fabric market bags have been sewn by volunteers at Third Presbyterian Church for clients of the church’s food cupboard.  Clients will bring them each time they visit the food pantry to work towards eliminating the use of plastic bags.  In the picture Sue Melech,  a Third Church member and Sew Green volunteer,  holds a bag as a client selects her food items.

SewGreen is also providing fabric for bags to the Greece Food Pantry and sewing machines and fabric to ROC Salt Pantry in the South Wedge

Arnett Block Party

The Arnett Block Party was Saturday August 3rd. It was a beautiful sunny (and hot) day on Arnett Blvd in the 19th Ward! The summer interns at SewGreen made over 60 reusable market bags to give away at the Block Party. The interns sewed the bags at the shop and brought them to the party. People attending the party personalized them with paints, markers and stencils. It was a big hit, look at these beautiful bags and happy faces!  Read on for another chance to paint bags on August 24th at the 1872 Cafe.
