Stone Art Camp at the JAC,

July 8-12, afternoons! 

TEENS- Join us at the JAC for a week of stone art camp! We’ll learn about different kinds of stone (with a little geology thrown in) and stone tools, try out a variety of carving stones, and plan and carve, polish and mount a small animal sculpture in soapstone. The final day of class will include a mini exhibition of completed works, and parents are welcome to join us! Campers should bring a snack and water bottle each day.  This camp includes a field trip to Ft. Wetherill State Park on Friday, July 12!  REGISTER AT JAC.

Stone Carving Workshop at Watson Farm! for Adults

August 20, 22 and 25, 2019

1 pm to 5 pm

 

Join us for our latest workshop at Historic New England’s Watson Farm!Limestone carving is a satisfying and useful skill which has numerous applications for gardens, landscaping, and creative expression. In this 12-hour introductory-level workshop, students will use manageable scraps of limestone and carve them in relief-bring your own idea or utilize teacher references, and in the process learn something of an art form that has graced buildings and monuments from the Assyrians onward. Included will be plenty of stone lore, tips on securing materials and tools, and information about techniques including polishing and finishing. Please note: This workshop does not include instruction in carving letters. An additional $12 materials fee must be paid directly to the instructor on the first day of class. Fee: $125 (JAC and Historic New England Members $112.50)
