Join our new Environmental Caucus!

We are excited to announce that we have recently established the Okaloosa County Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida (OC-DECF), which is part of the statewide organization. We have knowledgable local members from all walks of life who have spent many years educating themselves about environmental concerns. Their interests and experience include methods of composting, using natural ingredients on our lawns, reestablishing barrier reefs to protect marine life, ensuring that we support businesses and organizations that do not pollute, and encouraging restaurants and grocery stores to use less plastic, more sustainable packaging, no plastic straws and more.

The Caucus has started working on local projects that could improve our water, air and waste management within Okaloosa County. We will also work with many other environmental groups in the area to raise awareness about how to be better stewards of our environment. We are already involved in legislative efforts, on April 8-9 we are joining others from around the state in Tallahassee for two Lobby Days to push our legislators to support bills that protect us and our children. And at the monthly Hootenanny Social Club on April 11, a representative of the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance will be speaking.

There is no Planet B! If you have an interest in the environment, we would love for your voice to be heard through our group. Please join us every month on the 4th Tuesday at 6:30 pm for our OC-DECF Action Gatherings at the Democratic Headquarters, 1270 Eglin Parkway, Suite C-10 in Shalimar. We look forward to seeing you there!

Celebrate Earth Day

Saturday, April 13 at Liza Jackson Park

April has now become Earth Month, since people in different locales celebrate Earth Day on various days. We invite you to join us on Saturday, April 13 for EARTH DAY FORT WALTON BEACH 2019 at Liza Jackson Park from 11AM-3PM. Many non-profits will be participating with a great variety of information about how to leave a lighter footprint on the planet. John Collins of Juiced Car, a member of the OC-DECF, will be exhibiting an assortment of Electric Cars, an exciting show.

Our table will be unique in that we will also be registering voters. Please let us know if you would like to participate at our table, or just come on out to the park and support our efforts. We hope to see you there!
