We are excited to announce that we have recently established the Okaloosa County Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida (OC-DECF), which is part of the statewide organization. We have knowledgable local members from all walks of life who have spent many years educating themselves about environmental concerns. Their interests and experience include methods of composting, using natural ingredients on our lawns, reestablishing barrier reefs to protect marine life, ensuring that we support businesses and organizations that do not pollute, and encouraging restaurants and grocery stores to use less plastic, more sustainable packaging, no plastic straws and more.
The Caucus has started working on local projects that could improve our water, air and waste management within Okaloosa County. We will also work with many other environmental groups in the area to raise awareness about how to be better stewards of our environment. We are already involved in legislative efforts, on April 8-9 we are joining others from around the state in Tallahassee for two Lobby Days to push our legislators to support bills that protect us and our children. And at the monthly Hootenanny Social Club on April 11, a representative of the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance will be speaking.
There is no Planet B! If you have an interest in the environment, we would love for your voice to be heard through our group. Please join us every month on the 4th Tuesday at 6:30 pm for our OC-DECF Action Gatherings at the Democratic Headquarters, 1270 Eglin Parkway, Suite C-10 in Shalimar. We look forward to seeing you there!
