| | Homecoming at the House An Update & News (Oct.19 & Oct. 20) Our Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) has been working diligently with several key alumni volunteers and our undergraduate chapter in organizing our 2018 homecoming events. We will have alumni events at the SigEp House on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. Due to the Substance-Free Facilities Resolution passed at Conclave, we have been challenged to think differently about how to plan and organize our valuable time together as brothers and a KyZ family at the house. To comply with the national policy we have had dedicated volunteers work with local partners to be able to have a licensed, insured, third-party provider (company that owns Reno's), who thus far has been agreeable to setting up at the house. There is a lot of paperwork involved to comply with the policy (that has been submitted). One benefit of who we have identified to partner as the provider, is that this provider has already done several private events throughout Rowan County. In addition, one dedicated SigEp alumnus is planning to feed all alumni, undergrads, and guests with 'hundred(s)' of pounds of pork, including pork shoulder, chicken, and more as we hopefully are able to burn the mortgage Saturday night. The major new change for Homecoming at the house from prior years is that for us to comply with the policy, outside alcohol will not be permitted at the chapter house which includes the chapter grounds. Also, the third-party service is required to end at 11:59 p.m. on both nights. As we get 100% confirmation on the food, third-party service, and any more important Homecoming news, we will share that information by email through this newsletter subscription and our KyZ Alumni Page on Facebook. | | |

| | Brother Spotlight: Donovan Cyrus Brother Donovan Cyrus from Ashland, KY is pictured above with Nekko Beal (Zeta Phi Beta) at the 2017 Homecoming where they were crowned King and Queen. Brother Cyrus is a senior mathematics major with a minor in calculus-based statistics. Donovan has worked for the Office of Student Housing for seven semesters serving in various roles, including student director. In fact, he's now worked in 9 different residence halls on campus. In addition, he's been an Orientation Leader for SOAR (MSU's orientation for new freshman and transfer students). In addition to these duties, he serves on the university's student disciplinary counsel. In addition to being Homecoming King, he's been awarded honors by SGA and the Office of Student Housing for being the Student Director of the year this last academic year ( 2017-2018). Brother Cyrus joined KY Zeta in Spring '17 he currently holds the position of VP of Communications. Part of Donovan's role includes updating the KY Zeta Twitter and Instagram pages (and maybe even SnapChat). To check out the KY Zeta Twitter page and Instagram use the boxes below. The Kentucky Zeta twitter and Instagram feeds can be found at these links to view. https://twitter.com/MSU_SigEp https://www.instagram.com/msu_sigep/ Our AVC facilitates our KyZ Facebook page, but periodically, we lean on the undergraduate chapter for info, especially Jeffrey Liles, Chapter Counselor, and folks like Donavan. Here's to Brother Cyrus! | | |

| | Let's Burn the Mortgage! After several decades, several houses, and over 1,000 brothers, KyZ is on the cusp of a huge milestone, paying off the mortgage. By raising $25,000 since our 45th and by Andrew Gillette securing $8,000 from our Chapter Investment Fund with HQ, we're so close to killing this thing off we can taste the Homecoming mortgage smoke on our tongues. One alumnus, has challenged us to match his $1,800 so we can pay it off fully by Homecoming. If we raise $1,800, we will burn the mortgage on Saturday night. Click the fire above or the box below to learn more or help out. | | |

| | Ky Z Volunteers Needed Our nationally recognized Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) is looking for a few good folks to assist us on the board of directors, as officers, as mentors, and as key volunteers. To sign-up or learn more about being on the AVC Board, email Jason Marion, Chris Haid, or Andrew Gillette by October 6th. Over the decade, our AVC has won all but one AVC Operations Award for our SigEp District. We've got a great group and we get to work with some great young men. We need board members and volunteers. especially in areas like financial management and planning, accounting, and home improvement. We are also always looking for chapter mentors. | | |

| | KY Zeta's Fall '18 Class A total of 21 bids were recently signed after the awarding of several Glenn Buchanan Balanced Man Scholarships awards and an intensive Rush Week that included kayaking, cookouts, sports on the intramurals fields, a trip to the Red River Gorge, a few random trips to Lockegee Rock, and a trip to Wild & Wonderful West Virginia. Big ups to Brother Noah Damron, VP for Recruitment, and the whole SigEp Chapter for bringing in another outstanding class. We're approaching roll number 1,050. If you know any MSU students worthy of joining SigEp, send a message to Noah. | | |

| | Successful Golf Scrambles The 7th Annual JB Blakeman Memorial Golf Scramble and the 2nd Annual Justin T. Chafin Golf Scrambles at Eagle Trace in Morehead and the Paintsville Country Club were both remarkable. In just two years, the Chafin Memorial Event has already raised tens of thousands of dollars in Justin's memory for students at Morehead, Big Sandy Comm. & Tech College, and Shenandoah University. Also, thanks to Vickie Blakeman and the rest of J.B.'s family, the Blakeman Scramble has already provided close to $20,000 in scholarship awards and was officially endowed last year to last in perpetuity. The Chafin Scramble is typically in mid- to late-June and the Blakeman Scramble is the Saturday after Labor Day. | | |

| | SigEp Founders' Lounge May Happen in ADUC Earlier this year, Brothers Bill Phelps and Quentin Hatfield concluded that as we approach our 50th, the legacy of our Kentucky Zeta Founders ought be memorialized for the indelible impact of this exceptional group of men on the campus, over 1,000 young men, and countless communities beyond. Brother Bill Phelps was approached by the university about getting together $50,000 for an endowed SigEp Founders' Scholarship Fund to award annually to selected upperclassmen who uphold the principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. In exchange for this fundraising, an incredible space at the entry point of a gorgeous new ADUC ballroom will be named in honor of our founders when we secure $50,000 in gifts or pledges. The space will be in the upper corner of ADUC that is the focus of the rendition viewed above. The space includes a view over Fields Lawn. Due to early gifts and pledges, including the sale of many Greek bricks, $20,000 has already been raised. Once $50K is secured, the SigEp Founders' Lounge will be one of the most attractive named spaces in the renovated ADUC. All gifts for this effort are tax-deductible. To contribute, joining Bill, Q, and many others in realizing this noble vision, contact Brother D. Ray Gillum or go online to the MSU Giving Page and make a gift for 'other' and indicate "SigEp Founders' Scholarship." Too see more pictures of the soon-to-be fully renovated ADUC click the button below. Tours will be available of ADUC at Homecoming. Thank you Brothers Phelps and Hatfield! This bond will never sever. | | |

| | Some other news at KyZ There's always something happening with Kentucky Zeta. We want to be able to continue to share more good news, but we are always in the need of a few good volunteers. Volunteers help organize lake retreats or co-sponsor leadership meetings with the chapter. Volunteering gives you a good excuse to just get back to Morehead and maybe even back to Lockegee Rock. We are always in need of alumni board members to serve monthly on phone calls or to spend time with our guys at the Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta in the winter. It's a good time to be active with Kentucky Zeta. Your chapter found out at the beginning of this fall semester that they were again top in grades with a 3.18 GPA in the Spring. The next closest fraternity was a 3.02. The chapter does amazing work with local food pantries every week and still has exciting social events. Your most recent AVC President, Brother Andrew Gillette, was selected by headquarters to a post with the national fraternity. As AVC President, Brother Gillette was instrumental in securing $8,000 from HQ for taking a big bite out of the remaining little bit on the mortgage. We're blessed to have great brothers, a great chapter, and great momentum. We are blessed to have an awesome chapter counselor, Jeffrey Liles. As SigEp's, we're blessed to have an awesome purpose and calling in this life. | | |
