Welcome to TIME SPIRALS! Thanks for reading my "art process blog" that's structured around moon cycles! If you wanna subscribe, learn more, and peep the archive: click here!

If you've been here before, welcome back.

The recent full moon in scorpio felt natural to me. THESE DAYS I've been (what feels like) dedicating my life to finishing up this project that I started last summer. Actually, my goal since last summer has been to finish all of the projects that I started during the Risolab residency; it will have taken me about a year to do everything I said I wanted to do last summer. But time's not real, so who cares. Actually, the book I'm currently working on, it's been brewing for several years at this point. Time spirals on.

[even tho its a full moon we're still in week 2 of the spiral. what I can I say i'm on a different cycle, though it remains lunar.]

THE FLORAL PLUMES...

WE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT THE ACID GIRLS ERA.

For this spiral, we will continue to study the cybernetics of Acid Girls Universe. I’m taking you back to 2019 wherein the band makes a song with lyrics based on the zine, which is based on the tru story of chilling at the beach during the climate apocalypse.

Back when I was living in Mexico City I had a friend who matched (and often surpassed) my energy, and we would hang out and go to punk shows around the city together. After a while we decided to start a band because we were sick of all the d-beat. I'm ngl, that was a huge motivator for us, and so we recruited some friends who are certified shredders, and that's how I ended up screaming in this girl band (with token guy on guitar).

The band was called ULU and it was hot! Unfortunately it was also built on chisme, which was our greatest strength yet weakness. Right before Covid hit, we were about to go on tour! The van was ready. I was so nervous. But then things fell apart, the band broke up, we wanted to get back together to record but the timing wasn't right, there were feuds, people died. Relationships ended. Lives transformed. Alice Bag got involved??? We ended up having more drama than music. Like a lot of bands, it imploded before we even took off.

Shout out to all parties involved in the making and breaking of ULU.  We never recorded, but here's a pretty low quality iPhone recording from a set from band practice. We would practice at this spot that was like, totally red inside called Yoox Discos. Kinda had David Lynch vibes. ACID GIRLS is my 2nd favorite song we made.

A COSMIC TREAT

GHOST OF DA BENZ

NEW YORK ART BOOK FAIR

I'll have a book on the RisoLAB table at the upcoming New York Art Book Fair. It's a soft launch of GHOST OF DA BENZ, which is a dead-car-zine-meets-dead-dad-zine. But it's actually less of a zine and more of a precious object if I'm being honest. Maybe it’s a bit of both. The story is a sprawling dream sequence and retrospective. It’s about memories and the things we inherit. Thanks to Cece Rios and Johnathan Fleming who contributed drawings and memories to this book. This is another project I started in the summer, but I just finished construction this spring. This is a soft release since it’s not in the shop yet. For now, you just gotta BE THERE.

This weekend Thursday-Sunday, check out the Risolab at NYABF table C3! The table will feature riso-printed work from other artists in residence and printers from the lab!
