ACES AND PLACES • Results from some of our superstars at recent Junior Tournaments: Alfee Stevens, Alice Stevens and Riana Tan finished runners up to NSW at the Pizzey Cup. The sisters then teamed up for the Junior ITF in Darwin going all the way to the final. Not stopping there, Alice later represented WA as the #1 player in the National U15s teams event on the Gold Coast, took out the Doubles title at the Gold Coast ITF with partner Hee Won Ju AND the Oceania Junior Closed Girls Doubles final with Kristina Tai in Sydney! Audrina Marchesi-Nemeth played in the 12&U Division at the Rafa Nadal Tournament in in South Australia. She was eventually eliminated by the #3 seed who said she had never had a tougher match. Lily Fairclough won the W15 Caloundra International #2 Women's Doubles title with partner Monique Barry. Way to go, girls! • The partying continues in Broome, where Trish Haffenden just celebrated her birthday with a few HPTC mates. Enjoy the sunshine, team! • As Winter League wraps up, we've had some great matches and some awesome finals results so far: our Women's Open League team, captained by Alfee Stevens, took Peppermint Grove down on the weekend to finish top of the Ladder at the Winter Finals. MEMBER PROFILE JOHN DI NOTO Get to know our Resident League Guru: Tell us about your early years. My parents moved from Italy and I was born and grew up in Freo (Go Dockers!) And your family now? I have 2 kids, a daughter - 18 and a son - 27, who leads and performs in his band ‘Humming’ playing on the local music scene. My very recently wedded wife Anthea runs the Perth Singing Academy where I help out here and there. What do you do when you're not on the court? I worked in Switzerland, Austria and the UK with different mobile network operators for a few years and am now a Senior Technical Specialist at Optus on the mobile network and rolling out 5G coverage. I previously worked with News Limited as a Systems Engineer/Manager in modernising newspaper production systems, and for Raytheon on the Department of Defence electronic engineering systems. And on the court..? I started as a member at East Freo TC for 10 years before coming to HPTC in 2008. I have been the Men's Captain for 11 years now. Favourite chill-out activities? I like running, tennis (of course...), spending time with family and listening to music from the 60s,70’s, 80s Beatles, U2, Dire Straits, AC/DC, Nirvana, Linkin Park, Def Leppard. Love a good TV binge - Breaking Bad, Seinfeld, The Godfather 2 and Interstellar. Tell us something cool you've done. I watched the 1992 Space Shuttle Launch from Kennedy Space Centre, and I've been to Wimbledon and Roland Garros. |
