Dear Friends, I'm eking out my last newsletter of the year, in the last few hours before my long awaited artist reception happening at the Phipps(Friday 12/17) on the eve of my birthday, in the last month of the year, nearing the last of the incubation days in the deep dark soil of winter. Come join me in body or mind. Sending you connection during this fertilization period just before the winter solstice. Martha |

In person group exhibit at Hennepin Theatre Trust Crossroads December 6, 2021 - January 28, 2022 (I have 1 sculpture and 1 large print in the show) |
This show, featuring art by the Avivo Artist Collective, acknowledges the hardships of the last year and a half while also celebrating unexpected moments of connection and looking forward to the future. Hennepin Theatre Trust (HTT) invited Avivo Artist Collective members to submit 2 pieces of art each for this exhibit that we feel relates to our experiences from the last 1 1/2 years of events ranging from COVID to the social unrest present in Minneapolis. All the original art is in the gallery and then one piece of artwork from each artist was enlarged, printed on paper and hung in the building windows along 8th Street and Hennepin Avenue. There's a great tour on their website. You are Invited to visit*: Fridays from 1-3 pm in the gallery (12/17, 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, and I'll be there for the closing reception on 1/28 with snacks provided) at 900 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. *if you'd like to visit at any other time monday-friday 9-5, please arrange by calling Tovah at Avivo ArtWorks 612-916-5121. CDC guidelines followed. If you let me know when you are going, I will do my best to meet you there. Below is a 5 minute video of me talking about what thoughts and ideas inspired Expansion/Contraction which was at my recent East Lake Library show and is now printed large and hangs in the windows on 8th Street as part of the Crossroads exhibit. |

I signed up to be a mentee! My first experience with this organization in the fall of 2019 was receiving a scholarship to attend their workshop: Get Yours: A Negotiation Workshop which was packed with tools, and practice, designed to help attendees negotiate their way to a higher salary, better freelance rates, a more flexible schedule… whatever we deserve. It was a confidence and skill builder experience for us to assertively ask for what we are worth. It was there that I learned about the mentorship program. In it's 5th year, the 2021-22 MPLS MadWomen Mentorship program is a six-month-long commitment for women and non-binary individuals working in creative fields in the Twin Cities who are craving female mentorship outside the workplace. It was originally designed for the advertising and marketing community — agency and corporate — but has since been broadened (thanks pandemic!) to include more fields including artists. I am having a very successful pairing with my mentor Erika Mayerle, Senior Vice President, Group Account Director at WILDTYPE, a TBWA\WorldHealth Company. She is a senior marketer with nearly 15 years of experience working everywhere from Madison Avenue to Silicon Valley with a demonstrated track record of delivering innovative solutions for clients in health/wellness, CPG/retail, food/agriculture, finance and more. Thank you Erika for our inspiring monthly conversations!! |
