What makes the bikes built by Combat Hero Bike Build different from most custom bikes?
The shifting system is one borrowed from race car systems. It operates best with the throttle on high. It is an electric activated system operated by a thumb lever which kills the engine for a nanosecond. We don’t use the automatic system as it’s too easy for a rider to forget to place the transmission in park and do what all bikers do and rev the engine and find themselves flying into an intersection. (see photo above)
We use a double lever braking system for double or right leg amputees. The system is mounted on the right side handle bars, where the normal front brake would be. It operates when the vet pulls back on the front brake, as the rider brings the lever back they then come in contact with the rear brake lever bringing the bike to a smooth stop. (see photo below)
We have used other trike kits but have pretty much switched solely to Frankenstein trike kits. They give us more flexibility with their new design.
Amputees cannot feel pressure with their “feet “ so trikes must be equipped with a reverse. Also it has happened where an amputee riding a trike can have the leg vibrate off the foot pad and fall into the road so we have added small vertical pegs on the footrests to keep their prosthetic leg from vibrating off.
These are just a few things that we have to keep in mind when modifying these bikes .
