Jessica's favorites

I'm writing this from El Paso, Texas. While here, I've been to a few places Jessica Watts, the main character in my novels Tequila Midnight and El Diablo visits. One of these, The Tap, is one of the best dive bars in the country.

You walk in, and it's dark and narrow, the music is loud, and the bar stretches almost all the way down the length of the place - leaving just enough room for a few tables and chairs and a pool table in the back. Oh, and besides really cold beer, they serve some of the best nachos anywhere. It's located half a block from the county courthouse and another block from the jail - the perfect place for an amateur detective to hang out.

I also went to Julio's Mexican Food for dinner. This restaurant is fantastic. I used to go Julio's in Juarez years ago, and they've since opened two locations in El Paso.

For those of you who remember my experience with "whiskey cake" in Spain earlier this year, when I saw crepes with tequila on the menu, I couldn't pass them by. Crepes de cajeta are served with flaming tequila poured over an orange. The tequila drips down onto crepes covered in a traditional Mexican caramel sauce and dashes of cinnamon send sparks flying. It was a great show and a dessert Jessica Watts would truly appreciate.
