Restoration project within the Sacred Heart Cathedral

We've started work on the classroom and study room restoration project within the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Thanks to the support from the 2022 CASA Live and 2023 Golden Key Gala, we are revitalizing these spaces destroyed by ISIS in 2014. We will begin by removing all the old flooring and walls, and once complete, the church can resume its Christian education program and offer a space for young students to pursue their studies.

Supporting 7 Schools in Alqosh and Tesqopa with Textbooks

Shlama from Tesqopa and Alqosh! Thanks to Assyrians without Borders, we've delivered over 2,300 books to primary and secondary students across seven different schools. In the past, classes were conducted without an adequate number of books, with students sharing limited resources and unable to take books home. Now students can enjoy a much-improved learning experience. These schools have various needs, and we hope to continue supporting them in the future.

Volunteer Spotlight

Who is Omran?

Shlama, I am Omran Adnan Jarbo, from the city of Telkeppe, Iraq. I am 23 years old and a graduate in Dams and Water Resources Engineering. I also have a diploma in philosophy and theology and currently I am a student in the Faculty of Law/fourth stage.

I am interested in societal issues as I am a community activist in the Telkeppe area, and I am also interested in issues of transferring and preserving Christian heritage and culture in Iraq, so I created a account on Instagram called "kepa.datra".

Why does he volunteer for Shlama?

I work with Shlama because I love to serve and support the members of my community in their historical cities. One of Shlama Foundation's goals is to stabilize our people in their cities by supporting them in various ways and means. Shlama worked to restore stability and rebuild many buildings in our city of Telkeppe and various cities in Iraq where our people are present.

I aim to provide the service to all our people who need it. Through my work I aim to prevent our people from thinking about immigration, but rather create programs to build bridges and bring our people in diaspora, especially the young people of the new generation, to get to know each other. To know their roots and history, and to be spiritually connected to the cities of their fathers and grandfathers, and also for them to support their areas of origin so that we all continue to develop, and that Shlama prevails among us.

I firmly believe that our society thrives when individuals like myself come together, driven by a shared dedication to serving our community. I am committed to continuing my efforts in collaboration with the Shlama Foundation and its members, as we strive to foster growth and support within our society.
