Hello ladies and hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a quick recovery from the holiday weekend. My husband and I traveled to the Minneapolis area for the holiday and left for the airport with snow on the roads! Glad to be back for sure! Congratulations to the newly elected Board members! I look forward to working with the Board as we look to what the future holds for our organization during the coming year. We are heading into our busy season with many diverse volunteer opportunities. Right now, we are in the throes of planning and making decisions about the Island Luau, one of our largest fundraisers. There are many moving parts to this event and we need your help. The first moving part is soliciting businesses, members, and the community at large, to support our fundraising efforts by becoming a sponsor, donating a basket, donating items to make a basket, donating stand alone items, and of course, gift certificates! We have already received donations from Broadway Palms and the Everblades Hockey team! Over 250 letters were mailed out earlier this week! Kudos to Marian Horgan for her expertise in Excel programming and mail merging. Next, and the most labor intensive, will be walking door to door to businesses to request donations. For the new members who are unfamiliar with the businesses in the area, this is a great way to learn so much about the Greater Pine Island Community. It is a short time-framed volunteer activity, usually 6- 8 days total, starting in early January and ending by the end of the month. You can choose your times and days, as we like to be flexible. We typically do a few hours in the morning and then break for lunch to regroup, relax, and get to know each other more; then, back out for a few hours more. If you are tracking your steps, you will be amazed how quickly you reach your goal! More details about this opportunity will be coming at our next meeting on December 13th. Sign up sheets will be available and seasoned solicitors available to mentor you and walk with you. So, please volunteer. Lastly, the holiday season would not be be complete without Hooker Caroling. Come join the fun! See details and dates in this Herald. 2024 Madam B |
