I do hope that you all had a chance to celebrate this Great Nation, and all those who protect us from harm, on July 4th. God Bless the USA; truly the land of Free because of the Brave! The Pine Island Annual Parade was amazing with more music, participants, and spectators than in recent years. For those of you not in attendance, our theme this year was about rebuilding this island we all love so much, and our music choice was 'We Built This City on Rock and Roll' complete with construction attire, a walking Safety Cone worn by Christy and a Honey Dipper, reminder of some of the services we provided, worn by Joyce; and we passed out frozen popsicles! They were a big hit on a very hot day! You all should give big Hooker Hugs to Tania for making everything come together! We even have our very own Matlacha Hooker custom made Hook that that Miss Matty rode in the Parade that we can use in the future. Another Thank You goes out to Beltran Nursery for once again providing a flat bed and driving us in the Parade. Finally, the day wrapped up with an always spectacular Fireworks display at the American Legion. What a great day! And now, get ready for some more July Island Fun - MangoMania is this Saturday, July 15th and a few more volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts. You can sign up on Monday. Don't forget to bring two non-perishable items for the Food Pantry, school supplies, and your gently used bras for Free The Girls. Stay well hydrated this month and wear sunscreen. Hookers Rule!

Monday, July 10, 2023 American Legion Post 136 4106 Stringfellow Rd in Saint James City Doors open at 5 pm to start ordering food and beverages. Reminder: the American Legion only accepts cash! The meeting begins promptly at 6:30 pm. We will be awarding Hurricane Ian Business Grants at this meeting. We will also be collecting school supply donations. And as always, please don't forget to bring food pantry donations! |

Hey all you trashy Hookers! Mark your calendars and join us on Saturday July 29th at 8:30 am. We'll meet in Matlacha at Blue Dog and go east to Miceli's and west to Yucatan - both sides of the street. We'll equip everyone with trash pickers, safety vests, gloves, trash bags, bug spray, and plenty of water. The more people that show up, the faster the clean up goes. We're usually done in less than 90 minutes. We team up in pairs and head out with half going on one side of Pine Island towards the Yucatan and the other half towards Miceli's. We'll have a sign up sheet at the July 10 general membership meeting - but feel free to show up with or without signing up. Thanks in advance for your participation. We're looking forward to seeing your smiling faces on Saturday July 29th. Grab your hubby, neighbor, best friend - this is an activity that nets immediate results. Afterwards you can proudly drive thru Matlacha knowing that you have made an amazing difference in our community. Plus - a little fresh air and exercise is a great way to kick off the weekend. The Pine Island Food Pantry is in need of the following items: laundry detergent, canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried beans, instant mashed potatoes, all types of crackers (saltines, Ritz, Townhouse, oyster/soup), egg noodles, and pasta (elbow macaroni, penne, ziti). Please bring donations to the next General Meeting or drop off at one of the following locations: Winn-Dixie, V.F.W., American Legion, Moose, Centennial Bank, the Matlacha Post Office or at the pantry when it is open on Monday and Thursdays, 9 am - 11 am.
