Member Spotlight Q&A
Where are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Goiania, Goias. That is in the Center-West region of Brazil. It is about a two and a half-hour drive from Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.
How did you enter into the field of RIM/IG?
Soon after I graduated law school in Brazil I was hired to direct the judicial statistics department of the supreme state court of Goias. I worked with a great team and we had an opportunity to implement a new database to track all judicial data and to extract all relevant information pertaining to the productivity of the state judges. Later this information was used to evaluate the judges' performance and to make decisions regarding their promotions as well as setting the budget for the various cities within the state.
Which firm/organization do you work and how many years?
I have been a Records Manager with Epiq for a little over 3 years now. I currently manage the records department of the 3rd largest DLA Piper office, which is in Washington, DC, as well as their Reston, VA office which is rapidly growing and it is where the executive leadership sits.
What major RIM/IG projects are you working on, recently completed, or have upcoming?
We recently migrated databases and both DC and Reston are undergoing moves and renovations.
What is your favorite quote?
I recently learned this one and it stayed with me. It is an adaptation of the serenity prayer. I am a psychologist's kid so self-awareness is very important to me. "God grant me the serenity to accept I cannot change people, the discernment to mentor the ones I can, and the wisdom to know when I need to change."
What is the one TV show you can never miss?
Homeland has me glued to the TV. I cannot wait for the next season!
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
Well, most people get really surprised when I tell them I am part of an amazing drum corps and international movement called Batala. We are an all-women drum band and we play a rhythm from Brazil called samba-reggae. We perform in a lot of events throughout the DMV area. Batala is a non-profit and we have about 80 members. Our mission is to empower women through music and drumming.
What is your favorite movie?
It's a movie from 19997 with Jodie Foster called Contact. It is based on Carl Sagan's novel, the protagonist finds evidence of extraterritorial life and is chosen to make the first contact.
How do you define success?
Success is an attitude. Success is to have certainty I have tried my best, yet not settling for the status quo.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
This one is easy! I would be an international flight attendant just so I could travel the world for free.
What was the last amazing meal you had?
I would have to say it was pork posole. It's this delicious Mexican soup made with hominy and lots of spices.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have a miniature Schnauzer named George. He is turning 4 years old in March and he likes to put his head out my car window and bark at everyone on the street.
