Okaloosa Dems Form LGBTA Caucus

On May 10, eleven people attended an interest meeting to discuss forming a LGTBA Caucus in Okaloosa County. We were supported by Keith Hardy, the Florida Democratic Party’s Community Engagement Director in the panhandle, as well as Jeff Nall, Alternate Regional Director for the LGBTA Caucus in Region 1.

The group decided to move forward and hit the ground running, hosting a Voter Registration Training on May 22, and a Voter Registration Event Memorial Day Weekend at Pensacola’s famous LGBTQ beach party. You can join them to show your support at the upcoming Emerald Coast Pride Walk on Saturday June 15 in Niceville. Click here for additional details about the Pride Walk.

During the meeting, attendees expressed interest in the following issues: fair housing, LGBTA youth, and the spike in AIDS in Okaloosa County.

Everyone is welcome to join the LGBTA Caucus - the “A” stands for ally! Please contact Democratic Executive Committee Chair, Tracey Tapp, at Chair@okaloosademocraticparty.com if you’re interested in getting involved.

Letters to the Editor Team

Is Off to a Fast Start!

Just one week after our first Letters to the Editor (LTE) team meeting we have already succeeded in getting not one, but TWO letters accepted by the Northwest Florida Daily News for publication. As an added bonus, we have secured a grant that will provide $1250 if we publish 10 letters between now and November 15, 2019. We are off to a good start!

Some of the guidelines the team established for writing letters include starting with values and following with facts, limiting references to political parties, building common ground, and focusing on politicians and how their policies hurt people rather than demonizing Trump supporters.
