President's Message

Welcome to September. We had every intention of meeting face to face this month, including lunch at the Red Lion. They were looking forward to having us back. Instead, we are postponing seeing everyone in person. Our goal is to meet in November. We have a program lined up and are ready to go. The Executive Board has been hard at work. A committee took a look at our 2014 Bylaws and Policies and Procedures.

We will be voting on accepting the 2021 version at the November meeting. To see copies ahead of time - email me at cril@earthlink.net. We also worked on and approved our budget for 2021-22. Included in our budget is support for Mini Grants for our active school employees. Watch for further information and an application in the mail. The grants are available to any member CDSRA for an amount up to $200. If you know someone that wants to become a member and have access to Mini Grants - email me and I'll refer you to the right person.

Active school employees - you are appreciated and you're making a huge impact on the lives of your students.

Kriss Crilly – CDSRA President

Most medical providers in North Central Washington belong to Confluence Health – a private healthcare company. Unfortunately, Confluence Health is in the midst of an ongoing contract dispute with Premera Blue Cross / Blue Shield regarding 2022 provider reimbursement rates. While the details of the negotiation are private, we do know that Confluence is currently unwilling to accept the rates proposed by Premera. This is not unprecedented – for most of 2016 the Providence Health network was not a Premera Preferred Provider due to similar circumstances.

Both Confluence Health and Premera say they are committed to finding an agreement. However, due to the lack of alternative providers in North Central Washington, this dispute could have a major impact on where we receive health care. It would affect PEBB retirees and other seniors on Premera Blue Cross / Blue Shield. We believe this will get resolved but wanted Unit 2 members to be aware of the brewing situation.

Again, these negotiations do not affect the 2021 calendar year but are for the 2022 calendar year. Please call Mary at 509-884-7671 or Sue at 509-860-1439 if you have any questions. We will keep you posted on this important issue.

The CDSRA will sponsor the Pangborn Project again this year for Eastmont 3rd Graders. This project tells the history of the "Miss Veedol" and the first transatlantic flight from Japan to East Wenatchee! It is designed to spark students' interests in STEM, culture, and history.

We Will Need Your HELP! This project will only work if we have volunteers from our retired educators. Please contact Deb Lacy if you would be willing to volunteer.

WHAT: Helping 3rd Graders in their Classroom
