Note from the Director, June 2021
by Patricia Cream
“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” John Lennon.
I really love quotes, and they inspire me to be more positive and to look outward, not inwards, to think of others and see how I can be of help in my little world. This past year, we found ourselves living through a pandemic. In the beginning of the virus, my family had so many trips planned. Then, we were busy with canceling our planned trips, and we saw the many holidays roll past without our families and friends. Our thoughts and lives were so wrapped around the virus that we forgot to stop and see what life was bringing to us through positive plans, our goals, and grand ideas, and some may have stopped using their creative talents. BUT the good news is our country, our cities, and local hometowns are coming back strong. The artists at The Gallery ABQ are creating more original art than ever. I am proud to say that our artists are showing that life as we know it now is getting better, and we are standing strong against the COVID virus by all members being fully vaccinated. We are ready to meet and greet our customers, collectors, friends, and family at The Gallery ABQ. Let’s plan to get out of the house and come by the gallery. We have many new art pieces both for the walls and for your tables and niches.
Call for Artists: If you are a local artist looking for a contemporary fine arts gallery to show your art, please go to our website https://www.galleryabq.com to get more information about our gallery, and the application is online as well. If you are interested, please send me your application (abqgallery@gmail.com), and we can set up a date to jury in.
Currently in the salon, we have the Miniature and Small Works show through May 28th. If you have not stopped by to see the show, you should. There are many beautiful paintings in this show. And, the May Featured Artists are Linda Weiss, fused glass, and Nina Adkins, mixed and water Media.
The Salon Show in June will feature Joe and Cindy McDonnell. Joe is a fine art artist, and Cindy creates metal wall art and sculptures. The June First Friday will be on June 4th, 5:00-8:00 pm. It is sure to be a great show in a variety of different media.
The Featured Artist in June is me, Patricia Cream, oils. I love painting skies. I am fortunate to live in a place that has beautiful skies morning, noon, and night. Skies talk to my soul, and somehow bring me to a peaceful place. In this show, I will be presenting a wide range of skies. Tying this note back to my quote, I want to be more in tune with “Life,” rather than being so busy making other plans. I hope to see some of my friends and family at the First Friday Artist Reception, June 4th, 5:00-8:00 pm. Some normalcy is returning to the First Friday. We are honored to have Music by Kevin and Anne Worley, "worleysings", is two people who love to sing. Their harmony is a beautiful blending of two spirits into one.
Now that our Governor has relaxed some of the COVID restrictions, we are getting closer to our normal First Friday events. It will be exciting to get back to serving appetizers and drinks by our July event. However, for the rest of May and June, we are going to continue wearing our masks for the safety of our members and customers. We hope this precaution will allow for our State to get more people vaccinated. The Governor said when we reach 60% of the people in New Mexico having been vaccinated, she will lift the COVID restrictions 100%. We are looking forward to this goal.
