President's Message

Once again, we will not have a program at our March 8th zoom meeting. All members are welcome to join our board meeting on March 8th. We visit at 1:45pm and the meeting begins at 2pm.

I invite you to SAVE THE DATE - April 12th - 2pm. We will have a program where we get to meet the 2021 Apple Blossom Royalty via zoom. More details in our April newsletter.

Did you miss CDSRA's Valentine: "Our Hearts Go Out To You!!!" that appeared in the Wenatchee World February 13th? If you missed our Thank You to all of our members, retired and active, we are sharing it with you now!

Spring Mini-Grants are open. The application deadline is March 26th. Click here for an application. If you know fellow school employees that are not members, invite them to join. Then they may immediately apply for a mini-grant to be awarded shortly after Spring Break.

Legislative News

This year's Legislature is meeting virtually. We have positive feedback from legislators that they will retain our Medicare/HealthCare benefit of $183 per month and that the Legislature plans to make the actuarially recommended pension payment. We will monitor the Senate and House budgets to see if they are included.

These Bills look as they will go no further:

- HB 1040: Concerning health insurance for those who opted out of PEBB health insurance.

- HB 1032 : Concerning early retirement for Plan 2 & 3 employees.

Please contact us if you are interested in being involved in the legislative process:

Social Justice Explored
Through Mini Grant Project

Cashmere Middle School

CDSRA member, Shelly Milne, was asked by an 8th grader why she had never learned abou the Tulsa Race Massacre. This prompted Shelly, the school librarian, to start "Social Justice Book Clubs" via Zoom. Through reading and discussing books that Ms. Milne had ordered with the CDSRA mini-grant, students are able to see issues from another perspective and better understand the complex issues that are plaguing our world.

More News & Updates

Members of CDSRA are taking turns making and delivering goodies to some of our members that are living in senior living facilities. Dave Gelb helps to deliver them at Colonial Vista, but they are actually going to a number of our members. Nancy Valeson, Sharon Salley and Bev Jagla delivered Valenties. Deliveries will be made by other members on St. Patrick's Day and Easer.
