The Virginia Classic Show Report

ERAHC’s two-day Dressage show at the Virginia Horse Center on August 21-22nd in Lexington, VA was a great success. The competition ran smoothly, we had fantastic weather, and the competitors enjoyed the show. We had a wonderful Education Day with Wayne Hipsley, Shannon Bossung, Heather Beachum, and Alfonso Doce. Wayne went into great detail with our beautiful demonstration horse owned by Sara O’Hanlon on the proportions and details of the horse’s confirmation and how that effects functionality. Shannon Bossung walked us through an interactive session with alternative health modalities to support our horses with so and so’s lovely horse. Heather Beachum guided us through mindful exercises to become more aware of how our bodies move to be more effective on the horse. Alfonso Doce worked with both Shannon and soandso’s horse on the fundamental principles of classical training which is what all else is built upon. The day was capped off with a fun Fiesta Night Dinner.

Thank you to our Volunteers

We’d like to thank all the volunteers for their time and effort at the Dressage shows at Mount Holyoke and at the Virginia Horse Center. Without our volunteers the shows would not run as smoothly as they do. We’ve had great feedback about how helpful and friendly our volunteers are with the competitors. This quality of caring is truly appreciated by them.

Our volunteers in New England include Anne Schioppo, Bonnie Miller, Nicki di Filippo, Amy Schrom, Shawn Newton, Heather Ashe, Linda Ashe, Eva Morse, Eden Papuga, Angie Mastroianno, Lauren Rocco, Adina Ness, Suzanne Mente, Amy Schrom, and Denise Clark.

Our volunteers in Virginia are Carol Branscome, Erica C. Knipp, Mary Smith, Teresa Callon, Lauren Rocco, Liz Tobey, Rick Rumbaugh, Rosalie Wenckoski, and Carol Denny.

A special thank you goes out to Linda Denniston the Show Manager of all our shows. She not only manages the show, but she obtains the licenses, secures the dates and locations, the hiring of all staff, ordering ribbons, obtaining the special awards, organizing the prize list, and a plethora of other tasks to make these shows happen.

ERAHC's GENERAL MEMBERSHIP ANNUAL MEETING

The evening kicked off with a fun wine and cheese party where lively discussions broke out about what was learned at the educational symposium. Then we all down for the Annual Membership Meeting.  At the meeting, we went over the highlights of the year in review which included last year’s New England Show, the Virginia Classic Show report, hosting a Baroque Equestrian Show last September, and attending the upcoming Iberian Horse Showcase and Ibericon trade show in Ocala FL in October where many of our members will be present.

We also discussed the planning stages of next year’s shows in New England and in Virginia.  Susan Hart, the president, reported how the Board was working to revamp the Breed show to be more inclusive to horses that belonged to all the different registries as well as having a Breeders Showcase and Exhibition rides for those that didn’t want to compete in the regular classes.  Marketing, possibly having futurity classes, and attending trade shows became the discussion of the rest of the meeting.

After the meeting we had a wonderful time, enjoying the fiesta dinner where we met up with old friends and making new ones. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Meanwhile, we are on the road and hope to see you and make some new friends at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, FL, Oct 17-20, 2024.
